It’s Friday, so I’m linking up with Fairytales and Fitness for the Friday Five. You may have seen that I’ve been traveling a bunch for the last few weeks. You may also know that I’m not a great sleeper. I have to work at it. Today, I’m going to share my top tips for sleeping better on the road.
Tips for Better Sleep on the Road
1. Change up your schedule to the new time zone before you travel. If I’m going to California, I try to go to sleep and wake up a little later for the week before I leave. If I’m heading to New York, I do the opposite.
2. Stay hydrated. Especially when flying, it’s easy to get dehydrated. Drink lots of water and limit alcohol and caffeine. Your body works better when it’s well hydrated – even when sleeping.
3. Reduce stimuli and distractions. At home, we don’t have a TV in our room and I leave my phone in my office when I sleep. I found that in hotels and when away, I used my phone more and kept the TV on for company. It always took me longer to fall asleep even when I was really tired. Now, I try to leave the TV off or turn it off and put my phone away at least an hour before bed.
4. Wake up and move. One healthy habit I keep up on the road, is to get up and move. I try to walk or run outside to get that Vitamin D. This is especially helpful if it’s sunny out. Soak up the sun to reset your body clock!
5. Keep it quiet. How? Wear earplugs! It’s easy to be disturbed by unfamiliar noises at hotels and friends’ houses. I was offered the opportunity to try new Pluggerz earplugs. They filter out background noise without blocking all sound. You’ll still hear your alarm clock. They have soft grip for side sleepers like me. They come in a handy case for travel, too! I used these on the plane and in hotels (and at my brother’s place to block out the rooster! Yes, a rooster.) They’re really comfortable so you barely notice them!
Want to try Pluggerz on your next trip? Two lucky readers will win a pair of Pluggerz All Fit earplugs. Please use the Rafflecopter below. The contest runs through March 29. Winners will be selected and notified on March 30. Winners must be 18 years of age or older, US residents (or have a US postal intermediary) and it is void where prohibited.
