You may remember my friends from Kuli Kuli Foods. I checked out Kuli Kuli’s Moringa Superfood Bars a few years back. At the time, I had never heard of moringa – a superfood ingredient. [Here’s the post with the history of Kuli Kuli.] Since then, I’ve helped them spread the word on new moringa products.
Kuli Kuli founder, Lisa Curtis, discovered moringa while working in the Peace Corps. She was in Niger and was eating a diet that lacked fruits and vegetables. She noticed early signs of malnutrition. A friend brought her a dish with moringa and peanuts. She added it to her diet and regained her strength and vibrancy. She then set out to bring moringa to the US market.
Moringa is gluten-free, vegan and is a great source of fiber, calcium and antioxidants. Moringa is the only plant that contains a complete protein, iron, calcium and vitamins. It is a “super-leaf.” Moringa is now the fastest growing green supplement, outselling matcha and catching up to spirulina and wheatgrass. Basically, moringa is the new kale!
Lisa recently contacted me to tell me some great news. Kuli Kuli received $5 million in funding to scale it’s ingredient business (for other companies to use) and to expand production of all of their great products. Like turmeric, moringa is a staple of Ayurvedic medicine, an ancient holistic healing system. Awareness of moringa’s anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties has grown exponentially since Kuli Kuli launched onto the market five years ago.
