My friend Natalie texted me that she loved a new snack called Super Lotus. They’re lotus seed puffs. Of course, I googled it and was intrigued. Lotus seeds (also known as Makhana, fox nuts and water lily seeds) are the seeds from lotus flowers. When puffed, they’re like popcorn but they have higher protein, natural antioxidants and minerals. Puffed snacks were a huge trend at Expo East and Super Lotus is on point.
The folks behind Super Lotus discovered the health benefits of lotus seeds on a trip to India. They loved the taste and the nutrition profile so they decided to bring them back to the US. They source ingredients from all over the world, but they call the Chicagoland area home. It’s great to work with another local company!
Super Lotus snacks are simple. They’re just lotus seeds with a little bit of olive oil, salt and cumin or tumeric. They’re naturally gluten free, Paleo friendly and vegan. They don’t contain any artificial flavors or colors.
Super Lotus snacks come in two flavors. They are Salt + Cumin and Salt + Tumeric. Cinnamon Sugar is coming soon. They’re only 70 calories per cup (175 calories for the whole 1.5 oz bag!)
Natalie was right! These snacks are delicious. I tried the Salt + Cumin first and then the Salt + Tumeric. I like them both. The Salt + Cumin may be better for less adventurous palates. But don’t worry, the Salt + Tumeric is not too strong of a flavor. I also love that the seed has a crunch but no skin like popcorn to get caught in your teeth. They say if you like them crunchier, you can toast them in the oven. I didn’t have them long enough to do that – I ate them too quickly!
You don’t have to take my word for it! Super Lotus will send one lucky reader a bag of each flavor as shown above. Please use the Rafflecopter below to enter. The winner must be a US resident, 18 years of age or older and the offer is void where prohibited. The giveaway ends on September 27. A winner will be selected and notified on September 28.
