Tried it Tuesday: Fluid Running H2Go System

This may be obvious but runners love to run. We hate to be sidelined by injuries. When the creator of “Fluid Running,” a pool running program, asked if I wanted to check out her new H2Go system, I said “YES!” I happened to be talking to Becca who is an avid marathoner and ultrarunner and she mentioned pool running due to injury. I asked if she wanted to try the Fluid Running H2Go system first. [Knock wood, I had no injuries to speak of.]

What is Fluid Running? It’s a no impact total body running workout that takes place in deep water. It burns up to 40% more calories than running on land and eliminates the pounding on joints. It’s also easy on injuries. Using H2Go’s waterproof Bluetooth headphones, the Fluid Running flotation belt and the H2Go App, users are coached by Fluid Running founder, Jennifer Conroyd, through 55-minute deep-water running workouts.

Jennifer Conroyd, Ironman and 10x Boston Marathon qualifier, started Fluid Running.  Injured while training for the 2010 Chicago Marathon, she found a coach who said he could get her to the marathon by running in deep water. Jennifer committed to the plan and ran solely in deep water for the six weeks leading up to the race. She decided “If this works, I’m going to commit my life to sharing this with others.” Jennifer finished with another BQ!

She used her expertise as an A.C.E. certified personal trainer and USATF coach to create Fluid Running – a deep water group fitness class. Based on research and science, the unique methodology and inspiring classes resulted in high demand for more classes. It was also named “One of the 20 Best Workouts in America” by Men’s Journal.

The H2Go kit!

To meet demand, Fluid Running created H2Go! You get Jennifer’s workouts directly through waterproof headphones included in the H2Go purchase. H2Go lets people workout whenever and wherever they want, in any body of deep water.

Becca tried out Fluid Running and she found that she could do the workouts without straining her injured hamstring/adductor. She has a preview here and here’s her full review. Jennifer sent me another H2Go system to try so I met Becca at the pool last Friday. She was doing the new Track Workout. She was SWEATING and said it was really challenging.

I started out with the 46 minute Introductory Workout. I enjoyed Jennifer’s clear instructions and friendly tone. Even when she had me working hard, I liked her. The intro workout teaches the different techniques and form. It’s not a demo, though. It’s a thorough workout. I really enjoyed it and felt the work. I have three other workouts to try. I’m going to add 1 or 2 pool running workouts a week to my training to get some extra work without the extra pounding. I’ve been talking this up to injured runners, too!

The belt is easy to use and they include a tether in case you are in deep water but not near the pool/lake side. The headphones work well and pair easily with my iPhone. The app is also user friendly. The bundle comes with three workouts (plus a coupon for a 4th) and instructional videos. You can buy additional workouts for $20. You can download them to your phone so you don’t need to be connected to wi-fi to work out.

The H2Go Running System is $199. You can buy the components or the workouts separately, too. Here’s the link to learn more. You can also keep up with Fluid Running on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
