If you’ve been around here, you know I love my caffeine. I like my caffeinated Run Gum so much that I became an ambassador. I also supported their recent Kickstarter to launch the the Extra Strength Spearmint.
Run Gum was developed by Olympian Nick Symmonds who also studied Biochemistry. As he was competing, he was always looking for a legal way to get an edge on the competition. He and his coach experimented with non-banned performance enhancing stimulants. Pulling from Nick’s biochemistry background and experience, they “knew about chemicals that the human body needed to perform optimally.” They focused on caffeine. They liked the impact but not all of the extra liquid from coffee or energy drinks.
The original Run Gum has 50mg of caffeine, 20 mg of taurine and B vitamins. They say that the gum has five times faster caffeine absorption and gives you a “full tank” on an empty stomach. It is also easy to carry with you and to chew. They suggest one piece before the run and one after or two pieces at once for “extra kick.” I generally go with 2 pieces before races and at the half way mark in marathons, too.
They developed the Extra Strength version for “when you need something stronger.” For me, it’s when I’m running a marathon and they suggest all nighters and mountain climbs, too. For these times, you just need one piece instead of two. Pretty ingenious. If you’re not a caffeine junkie like me, you might want to try regular strength or half a piece of the ES. One of my friends tried extra strength first and got the shakes!
Want to try it? I got a bunch of boxes from my Kickstarter perks, so I’m going to send one 12 pack box to a lucky reader. It’s signed by Nick Symmonds, too! How cool is that? Please use the Rafflecopter below to enter. The contest runs through August 2. A winner will be selected and notified on August 3. Winners must be US residents, 18 years of age or older and the offer is void where prohibited.
In the mean time, you can get Run Gum online and on Amazon. You can keep up with Run Gum on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. They also have a cool company culture and mission. Read How We Run to learn more.
