I first found Thunderbird Bars in 2014 (post). Back then, they were Thunderbird Energetica and were partnered with Epic. In 2016, they went solo, rebranded and reformulated the bars (post). They’re still 100% “real food” bars made from fruit, nuts, seeds, spices and nothing else!
Thunderbird Bars were created by endurance athletes who wanted “real food for pure energy.” They use 100% all-natural, simple and certified ingredients. The bars are paleo, vegan, grain free, soy free and they contain no added sugar. Thunderbird bars offer “conveniently packaged, nutrient dense, plant-based goodness.” Each bar contains only natural, easy to read ingredients.
Since last year, they’ve added two new flavors and retired one. The current flavors are: Almond Apricot Vanilla, Cacao Hemp Walnut, Cashew Fig Carrot, Cherry Walnut Cinnamon, Pineapple Mango Papaya, Hemp Sunflower Pumpkin Seed, Hazelnut Coffee Maca, Pecan Goji Pistachio, (new) Texas Maple Pecan and (new) Peach Pecan Vanilla.
There are now five bars with fruits and nuts and five bars with nuts and seeds. The fruit and nut bars have no added sugar, but are all sweeter due to the dried fruit. The bars with hemp or buckwheat are nutty and crunchy. All of the bars are soft with added crunch from the nuts.
I love the new Texas Maple Pecan. It tastes like a “good for you” pecan pie. My other faves are Cherry Walnut Crunch, Cashew Fig Carrot, Hazelnut Coffee Maca and Cacao Hemp Walnut.
I shared with Amanda and Allison. Amanda loved the Cacao Hemp Walnut. She said “it was decadent tasting and almost tastes like a thin mint. Two thumbs up!” She loved the ingredient profile of Almond Apricot Vanilla and 7g of protein. She thought the apricot was a nice change of pace, too. Allison loved the “pronounceable” ingredients and said she’s up for trying all of the flavors after trying two. She tried Hazelnut Coffee Maca and Cashew Fig Carrot (“like a grown up Fig Newton!”) She also enjoyed the taste of figs instead of the usual dates in the Cashew Fig Carrot.
Thunderbird recently launched a kid’s line, too. More to come on those soon! I have them out to my kid testers now.
