I met Andres from Natural Sins at Expo East. [If you missed them, check out my day 1 and day 2 recaps or my Instagram shot.] Their colorful marketing caught my eye. This Costa Rican snack company makes the “Unpotato Chip” and says they’re “out to smash the chip.” They make two ingredient fruit/veggie chips in pineapple, beet, mango and coconut.
Natural Sins believes that once people taste their fruit/veggies made with a unique process in the “Costa Rican way,” they’ll leave potato chips in the dust. They remind us that Costa Rica is a joyful place and their snacks are made with “Pura Vida.”Literally, this means pure life, but it also connotes an optimism and a good life. The Costa Rican way is to find the best fruits and veggies and then to slice then to a 1/4 mm thick. Then, they sprinkle them with pure cane sugar and bake them until they are “bursting with flavor.”
Natural Sins Crispy Chips are vegan, gluten free, kosher, Paleo friendly and are non-GMO. As I mentioned they come in four flavors: Coconut, Pineapple, Mango and Beet. All of the chips are made with only the fruit/veg with raw cane sugar. Each one oz bag is a serving and they are surprisingly filling. The pineapple has the most sugar at 17 grams, but the coconut only has 4 grams of sugar. The beet and mango both have 13 grams of sugar. The beet, mango and pineapple have 100 calories or less per bag. The coconut has 168 calories.
I dug into all four flavors. It’s tough to pick a favorite! The chips are razor thin and are really crunchy. They all taste amazing and are not too sweet. If I had to choose a favorite, I would pick beet followed closely by pineapple. I really like these coconut chips compared to other brands, too. These are great for a crunchy snack craving and are really good for you, too. That’s a win-win!
