I mentioned last week that the Friday Five was no more. I wasn’t the only one who was sad about that! Rachel, Lacey and Meranda decided to launch the Friday Five 2.0. So, I’m going to link up with Running on Happy and Fairytales and Fitness for the new Friday Five 2.0 linkup. They are going to have themes starting next week, but this week is freestyle.
Five Things I’m Looking Forward To (Before The End of The Year)
1. The Husband’s annual birthday shindig
The Husband loves his annual birthday party. We decided to have a birthday party for him in 2009 and it’s become an annual tradition. I tried to change it up for his 40th, but he likes the party as is. This year, we will have a packed den for Game 3 of the World Series. There are a lot of Cubs fans in these parts.
2. Heading to NYC and NJ
When we first moved to Chicago, I made it back to New York about ten times a year. This year, I’ve only been twice so far. I’m excited to go and see my friends and my brother and Dan at By Pond Farm (a/k/a my happy place).
3. The New York Marathon
Oh yes, and one of the main reasons that I’m headed to NYC is for my annual foot tour. This will be the 20th anniversary of my first running in 1996 and my 17th running. I’m not sure I’ll beat 1996, but I will measure my results in high fives and smiles. I hope there will be many of both. I’m also doing something different (and a bit crazy and probably not recommended) this year with a shoe company. I’m not sure how much I can say in advance so swing by next Friday for the scoop!
Here are links to my recaps from the last few years if you’re interested: 2015, 2014, 2013 and 2012 (cancelled).
4. Cuba!
We finally booked a much needed vacation! We’re taking a trip to Havana, Cuba with Larry and Dan. I’m super excited to check out the culture on our “Cars, Cigars and Rum” tour. I’ve never traveled with Larry and Dan, but I imagine we’ll have a lot of laughs. We are all looking forward to it and know it will be unlike anywhere we’ve been before.
5. Thanksgiving in Iowa City
Sometimes we travel during Thanksgiving and miss it entirely. This year, we’ll visit The Husband’s aunt and uncle and first cousins in Iowa City. Eddie and Charlotte just moved there post retirement and Thomas and Allie have a new baby for us to meet. We also get to see some friends and will likely have a Scrabble rematch to look forward to. Plus, the food will be delicious. Lots of wins there!
What are you looking forward to for the rest of 2016? Please tell me in the comments!
Have a great weekend, friends!
