Currently… A post on “things of the moment” for me (#13). [Inspired by Marcia and other bloggers.]
State of things: We’re sleep deprived because it’s the Olympics! We’ve been up late every night this week watching gymnastics, swimming and everything else. I just love the excitement, anticipation and the amazing feats of strength and speed. After a busy and hectic July, my travel schedule is very chill this month. This is awesome. I’m loving resting (except for the not resting part) and doing fun Chicago things. September will be crazy busy again, so I am going to revel in August for now.
Books: I devoured Liane Moriarty’s Truly Madly Guilty. It was not my fave by her, but I enjoyed it. I read The Girls and We Could be Beautiful which were supposed to be the “it” books this summer. They were both good, but no “Girl on the Train” or “Gone Girl.” Have you read anything good lately? Any summer blockbusters I need to read?
Movies: I haven’t seen any movies since my last Currently post. The Husband and our friends saw Don’t Think Twice with a Q & A with Ira Glass and Mike Birbiglia. They loved it and said the Q&A was awesome. I definitely want to catch this one in the theater. Have you seen anything good lately?
TV: The Husband and I are watching Boardwalk Empire. It has grown on me! We also watched the last season of Downton Abbey. Loved the happy/happier ending. I was also super excited to see that Brendan Dassey from Making of a Murderer was exonerated last week. Anything else good for us to put on our list?
Website/Podcast: I’ve been listening to some good audio books from Audible and my usual awesome podcasts. Nothing new that I can think of. Have you heard anything good lately?
Run: My last “Currently” post was in mid June. Since then, I’ve run a Fourth of July 4 miler (so fun), a 10 miler (pretty much a disaster), a 5K (hottest evening of the year), the SF Marathon (another very tough one) and a 5k this morning (ran 5.5 miles to the start and ran at a solid effort but not completely all out). I’d been feeling pretty sluggish on my runs. I ran my slowest 10 mile race since I started running (a long time and MANY races ago – more than 20). Then, I ran the San Francisco Marathon to celebrate my 20th anniversary of my first marathon. It was a super tough day for me and my second slowest marathon ever. I didn’t meet my goal to #beat1996. I still had an amazing time. It was humbling but fun and a terrific weekend with friends old and new. I’m taking it easy for August as I think I was just over trained. I have a modified plan for NYC. It is my 20th anniversary run there, too. I won’t miss it – I just need to decide what my goal is. I’ll keep you posted!
Speaking of running, join me at Amanda in the Run 10 Feed 10 Chicago fun run on September 8th. We’re pacers! You can get $5 off with code WHPR5OFF. Each participant gets an awesome feed bag plus other goodies and feeds 10 people. It’s a win win!
Non-Run Workouts: As usual, I’ve been hitting pilates and using the J & J 7 minute work out app. I have to get back to spinning and yoga STAT. I notice the difference. Have you tried anything new?
Food/Drink: I have some more awesomeness on the way food wise for reviews. I am very excited about new friend Erika’s Good Zebra “spirit” animal cracker. They come in three flavors – vanilla, chai and lemon. I have a dozen kinds of Good Greens bars to taster (and then a giveaway of the same for one lucky reader). I am testing out new Bestie almond and cashew butter as a new Yum Squad responsibility. Plus, Pumpkin Spice peanut butter is back from Peanut Butter & Co. YAY! I have six kinds of pancakes to make for Birch Benders, too. Stay tuned for a full review and giveaway. Have you tried anything awesome lately?
Excitement: The Husband has purchased the car of his dreams. It’s an “exotic” car. He’s so excited. Now, we will have 2 cars that I don’t drive and 1 happier husband in our house. What’s exciting by you?
Pet Peeve: People booing in the Olympics. Stop booing, please! It’s the Olympics – rise above. What is irking you lately?
Wish(es): I hope that no more female runners are killed or hurt running solo. There were three female solo runners killed in the last week in MI, NY and MA. This is three too many. What are you wishing for?
What is keeping you busy these days? Please share in the comments!
