Rebel Kitchen turns coconuts into delicious non-dairy “mylks.” I stopped drinking dairy milk several years ago after my elimination diet. It was three years ago almost exactly – time flies. When I had the opportunity to try Rebel Kitchen’s mylks, I was game. I have landed on almond milk as my favorite dairy substitute, but love all things coconut, too. The mylks come in several of my favorite flavors, too.
Rebel Kitchen founder, Tamara, grew up in a home that made healthy, delicious food. As she got older, she saw disconnect between the foods she made and those that were available in the market place. She and her husband Ben created Rebel Kitchen to “show that you can combine great taste with health AND be a responsible food brand.” Love it!
The mylks are made with a base of spring water, coconut milk and date nectar. They come in three flavors: Coffee, Chai and Chocolate. There are two “little rebel” flavors for kids, too – Chocolate and Vanilla. The mylks are organic, dairy free, gluten free, soy free, paleo, non-GMO certified and vegan. They contain no emulsifiers or carrageenan. The mylks come in convenient, resealable 11 oz tetra-packs that are shelf stable.
I shared my mylks with Kristin, Amanda and, of course, I chilled some for myself. Amanda and Kristin both love the Chocolate. Amanda said, “The taste is unbelievably good. It doesn’t have the fake chocolate milk taste I remember from growing up. This is the real deal. I always forget how amazing coconut milk is… I drank half and it was really satisfying.” Kristin agreed that the “richness and dark chocolate flavor surprised her” and she loved it. They both thought the Chai was not exactly what they expected, but Amanda liked the cardamom, cacao and tumeric. Kristin liked it in her coffee as a natural sweetener/milk alternative better than “straight.” Amanda tried the Coffee last and loved the “coffee milkshake” taste.
I like all three flavors – plain and in my coffee. I tried the Chocolate first chilled after a long run. It was delicious and filling. I tried the Coffee straight from the fridge – yum! I like it on ice, too, as a coffee replacement as it has caffeine. I used the Chai to sweeten my coffee instead of almond milk and I loved the spiced taste. I had some coffee left so I made an iced coffee with some Chai mylk. It reminded me of a Thai Iced Coffee. I will definitely be having this combo again! I think the Chai is my favorite with my coffee. I love the resealable pack so that I can use a little bit with each coffee or have half of a container over ice.
