It’s Friday, so I am linking up with Courtney at Eat, Pray, Run DC, Cynthia at You Signed Up for What and Mar at Mar on the Run for their weekly linkup. Each week they pick a theme and bloggers join in and link up. This year instead of specific themes, they are letting us be creative with broad themes for each week of the month. This is the a “food” themed week. As you may know, I have checked out a TON of new products at Expo West, Chicago Sweets & Snacks, The GF/AF Expo and just out and about this year. Today, I will share my fave new nut/no nut (think seeds) to try this summer.
If you sometimes feel like a NUT(S):
Yumbutter – I supported Yumbutter’s Kickstarter campaign for the Yumbutter “Go” pouches in 2014. Since then, they have come a LONG way. I saw them at Expo West and the GF/AF Expo. They started with peanut butter and almond butter with added superfoods for nutrients (from chia, hemp seeds and goji berries) in convenient pouches. Now they offer 6 varieties including: peanut butter, almond butter, sunflower butter, cashew butter, espresso peanut butter and protein almond butter. All of the “potions” are gluten free and contain organic and fair trade ingredients. They also give back with their “Buy One/Feed One” program. For every pouch sold, they donate a meal to a hungry child. Check out Yumbutter here, on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook! They sell at many stores including most Target stores. I am checking out the new (to me) cashew and espresso peanut butter and will have a review and giveaway soon!
Dick Stevens Jerky Mix – I spoke to the Dick Stevens team after Sweets and Snacks. Jerky has been all the rage this year pretty much everywhere. Dick Stevens combines jerky with trail mix in one bag. They combine raw nuts, berries, seeds and all-natural jerky. The jerky is nice and chewy and the nuts and seeds stay fresh. The mixes come in four varieties including original blends with beef or turkey and “extreme” blends with beef or turkey jerky. These are awesome for travel as they are easy to pack and pack a great protein punch. Learn more about Dick Stevens and where to get them the jerky mixes here. You can follow on Twitter and Facebook. I’ll have a review and giveaway coming soon!
If you are allergic or prefer NO NUTS:
SuperSeedz – I met SuperSeedz at Chicago Sweets & Snacks. As you may have seen, Kathie started making roasted pumpkin seeds with curry seasoning to pep up her salads. They started disappearing and hers kids and their friends asked for more. Pumpkin seeds have a great nutrition profile and are allergen friendly. They now have nine varieties and more on the way. I can see why these disappeared quickly. You can get SuperSeeds online and at many stores (locator). You can also sign up for their newsletter for deals and news and follow on Twitter and Facebook. Through July 14, you can also enter to win full sized (5 oz) bags of all nine flavors HERE.
Don’t Go Nuts – I met Don’t Go Nuts at the GF/AF Expo. This company was started by a teenage girl with a life threatening nut allergy. She missed some of her favorite snacks so she worked with her family to create snack bars and roasted soy bean spreads to enjoy some of her former favorite snacks and spreads. The snack bars come in 6 flavors and the roasted soybean spreads come in 5 flavors. You can find them at Amazon (affiliate link), Vitacost and Lucky Vitamin and these stores. You can also follow on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. I will also have a full review and giveaway coming soon!
OMG! Flax Butter – I had the opportunity to check out OMG! Flax Butter through my relationship with Tomoson. The flax butter comes in dark chocolate and madagascar vanilla flavors. Why flax butter? They say, “Flax seed is an exceptionally well-balanced plant based food, and very popular because of its high nutritional value. Flax seeds are known for their high omega-3 (ALA or Alpha Lipoic Acid) content. Omega-3 fatty acids are unsaturated fatty acids that benefit cardiovascular and overall health.” The spreads are gluten free and non-GMO. The base of the spreads is sunflower seeds. You can taste sunflower and flax and the chocolate flavor is not too sweet. It is a pleasant flavor and it really grew on me. It is very smooth and not too sweet. I imagine this would be great in baked goods and or mixed into oatmeal. You can get OMG! Flax Butter at Amazon.com (affiliate link)- right now it is BOGO so go get it! You can also follow on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
Have you tried anything nutty or (intentionally) not nutty lately?
Have a great weekend!
