AthleticFoodie was founded by two-time Olympic Gold Medalist, swimmer Garrett Weber-Gale. They make snacks for athletes to eat pre, during and post-workout/competition and send them in a customized subscription box.
These performance snacks have an interesting provenance. In 2005, high blood pressure almost ended Weber-Gale’s swim career. Through some medication and a diet overhaul, he was able to continue swimming and go on to win two gold medals in the Olympics! After his diagnosis with high blood pressure, he made it his mission to learn how to make healthy food taste great. Garrett has taken his knowledge and experience from all over the world, and shared it with others through speeches at the White House, to schools, sports teams, TEDx, universities, TV and radio appearance, cooking classes, authored articles and AthleticFoodie Events.
The snacks are intended for pre-workout, during workout or after workout. All snacks are “real food” with no added sugar, preservatives, additives, colors or supplements. They say that “each snack it intended to be part of your performance focused diet.” They come in pouches that are easy to carry for travel and are single servings with 1.5 – 2 ozs of food with 200 – 240 calories per serving.
- Pre-Workout – Apple Zapple and Goji Moji Granolas
- During Workout – Atomic Orange and Strawberry Spark Energy Chews
- Post Workout – Berry Strong and MangCoco Crunch Trail Mixes
The AthleticFoodie snacks really do taste fresh and delicious. The granola is a perfect portion to add to almond milk or yogurt pre-workout. I love the energy chews for long runs. They are very tasty and are easy to eat and digest. They are soft and easy to chew. I have tried all sorts of energy chews and these rank very highly for taste and convenience with me. The trail mixes are great for travel snacks and post workout. I prefer the Berry Strong trail mix flavor-wise but they are both good – fresh and all natural.
I am offering two lucky readers one of each of the AthleticFoodie snacks to try. Why? I refilled the subscription but I could not keep up! I have way too many food items on deck for the blog.
