I tried Original Snack Mix from Bubba’s Fine Foods in a PaleoKrate box. Tried is maybe an understatement. I basically inhaled it. Why? It is delicious and addictive. Plus it is gluten free, grain free and has no added sugar. Good for me and delicious? You know what happened next. I wrote to Bubba (well, Jeff, Bubba’s Fine Foods’ Co-Founder and “Head Peddler’) and asked if they were interested in having me do a review. They said “Yes!” and then offered to send a variety pack to me and one lucky reader. Read on and enter to win!
Bubba’s Fine Foods was started in 2014 by Jared Menzel his brother-in-law, Jeff Schmidgall. Each bag of grain-free snacks is artisan hand-crafted in small batches. Jared (a/k/a Bubba) is a self-taught chef. He changed his diet to clean, high nutrient and low glycemic foods. He started experimenting and creating his own clean, real-food snacks in his kitchen. Jeff is a Crossfit Trainer and health coach who adopted a Paleo lifestyle in 2014. He fell in love with the snack mix and the rest is history. I went over to meet Jeff at Expo West and “met” Bubba. I didn’t realize it though! I did tell him how much I loved the snacks!
Bubba’s Fine Foods’ grain-free snack mix is “a dream come true for the health conscious snacker!” It is made with REAL foods like banana chips, pecans, and cashews. It contains no artificial flavors, colors, sugars or preservatives. They are 100% Paleo, too, if you care about that! I like the fact that I can recognize all of the ingredients: Banana Chips (Bananas, Coconut Oil), Cashews, Pecans, Organic Apple Cider Vinegar, Coconut Aminos (Coconut Sap, Sea Salt), Olive Oil, Sea Salt, Paprika, Turmeric, Onion, Garlic. They added a Chipotle Honey BBQ and a Righteous Ranch flavor snack mix, too.
The only bad thing about the Original Snack Mix is that I can’t stop eating it! The banana chips are not sweetened but taste great. It has a fresh and unique taste. I shared some with Amanda and Kristin and they loved it, too. We also tested the Chipotle Honey and Ranch. We all agree that Original is our fave but like them all. I am not a huge ranch flavor fan, but The Husband dug it. I easily took down the Chipotle Honey and would do it again.
They also started making an “UnGranola.” UnGranola is loaded with almonds, coconut flakes, cashews and just the right amount of honey and vanilla. It is also gluten free, grain free and low-glycemic. They suggest adding coconut milk or just eating with your fingers. I tried almond milk and my fingers. I approve! They added a “Cinn-full” Apple and an “Uber Chocolate” flavor, too.
I tried the Cinn-Full Apple with almond milk and it was delicious. You have to like coconut because that is the base. If you do, you will love this cereal. I also ate it plain and imagine it would be terrific in yogurt or however you use granola. I brought the Vanilla to share with Larry and Dan last weekend and got a text from Dan that said “Delicious granola!” and then two seconds later “I hope you ate at least two servings, because I finished it up in one sitting.” Yup, a winner, too. I still have to try Uber Chocolate. I think that will fall in the healthy sweets pile for me.
The Variety Pack includes the following full-size bags:
- Original Snack Mix
- Chipotle Honey BBQ Snack Mix
- Righteous Ranch Snack Mix (new!)
- Vanilla UnGranola
- Uber Chocolate UnGranola
- Cinn-Ful Apple UnGranola
