Tried It Tuesday: LifeStraw Go Bottle

lifestraw-go-1000x1000_1Resolve to travel the world and get outside more in 2016? You need a LifeStraw Go water bottle from EarthEasy. This rugged sports bottle contains an award winning LifeStraw water filter so that you can have safe drinking water even when there is no clean water source nearby. They say that you can “use the bottle to scoop water from any pond, stream or river and the filter can clean 99.9% of waterborne bacteria from up to 1000 liters of water.” When you reach 1000, you can buy a replacement filter ($18.95 at EarthEasy) and use the bottle indefinitely!

You can take the LifeStraw Go with you when you go hiking, camping, or traveling to areas with poor water quality. You can use the carabiner to attach the bottle to your backpack, or store in your preparedness kit to ensure access to safe, clean drinking water in an emergency. This bottle is great for international travelers, too!

The bottle is BPA free and the mouthpiece is made of flexible, food grade silicone. The hinge is very strong for rugged conditions.

CARA trough

I have not been on any rugged treks lately, so I tried an urban solution. Chicago runners will recognize my testing ground. The trough! You will also recognize that this is a clean water fountain. That said, the basin portion is open to the elements including dogs, birds and whatever else is in the air. When I told my running pals about this experiment, they were a wee bit horrified!

I went out for a run and filled up my bottle in the trough. The trough part – not using the water fountain.

I came home and drank it!
I came home and drank it! I was not alarmed – hard to take a selfie while drinking through a straw!

I came home and drank it post run. The straw works beautifully and the water tasted clean with the filter. I prepped the bottle before taking it out as instructed which took about 10 minutes. This is a great bottle for travelers or really for anyone who wants to filter his water before he drinks it. I am definitely taking the Life Straw Go on my next international trip or US adventure trip.

The LifeStraw Go is currently available at Eartheasy for $29.95. You can keep up with Eartheasy on Twitter and Facebook and Lifestraw on Twitter and Facebook, too.
