I don’t have any one thing I wanted to chat about this week. I had a bunch of random things I wanted to tell folks about, so I came up with the idea for a “Sunday Shuffle.” Think of it as a peak into the rolodex of things in my mind that I might tell you about if some one “set me” to shuffle.
Check out this podcast: I have been loving the new “Things that Freak my Week” podcast from Jessica Murnane. She is still doing her “One Part Podcast” where she interviews folks in media or the arts. (Check out this great one with Chicago photographer Paul Octavius) Things That Freak is a short podcast where you can listen to her and a cool personality “discuss the things we had to eat, the people we thought were neat, and all the things that made us say sheeeeet.” It is such a fun concept and the time flies by listening to it.
I did get to participate a bit in Chicago Ideas Week, the Chicago International Film Festival and Open House Chicago. You may remember that this week in Chicago has a zillion events and festivals (post). The three I just mentioned plus the Marathon was last Sunday and the Chicago Humanities Festival is going on. How can Chicago expect people to be in so many places at one time!? I did wind up cancelling my trip to Denver so I could keep it together during this busy, busy month. Sunday, I cheered at the Marathon (like a maniac) and paced Nicole for 10 miles. Monday, Sapna and I won tickets to the Chicago Ideas Week “Lab” at Eastman Egg. Friday, I went with the ladies to see Hector at the Chicago International Film Festival and, yesterday, The Husband and I went to the Open House Chicago event at FEW Spirits Distillery in Evanston. Phew. I hope to do some local Open House stuff today, too. Oh, and on Thursday I went to the opening of Leisl’s Bird Magic exhibit. A few of the birds were crowdsourced from my mother in law and The Husband’s Aunt Charlotte!
I had another fun run at Run 10 Feed 10 but sometimes races that focus on the event instead of running make me a bit crazy. This is definitely an event/cause race. It is a great cause and has awesome sponsors (read: great swag and fun atmosphere.) When I say it “focuses on the event,” I mean a few things. One, fast runners pretty much don’t show up (which is good for winning prizes, but… less fun for competition sake). Two, they tend to start late and people don’t seem to know what is happening. For instance, yesterday a large group affiliated with the sponsor lined up on the start line despite it being clear that they were not going to lead the race. After a nice photo op, they did not move back and no one had an issue with this (except me – of course). Three, the course volunteers were plentiful, but bunched up. I missed a turn but only lost about 10 seconds. Michelle, however, turned the wrong way and wound up going from third place to 10th. The only good news was the prize for third overall and 1st AG was the same. I would have gotten the latter if Michelle had not gotten lost but got the former and vice versa.
I am still glad I participated and will run again, but I still might have bent a few ears with this feedback! I know, I need to lighten up. Good news, I did – see photos above. Another plus, I won an awesome Feed India 50 bag with tons of sponsor loot and it included 50% off from Hoka! Yay! I already used it for my next pair of Cliftons 2s!
I tried some awesome new foods and flavors from great companies lately. Keep an eye out for full reviews of Go Chomps, Stuffum Naturals Protein Cookie Butter, Tosi Super Bites, SOS Rehydrate’s new Mango flavor, Good to Go Protein Bars and more! I also tried the inaugural Raw Box from Cratejoy. It is a winner! It has lots of fave brands and some new ones to try.
What would you tell me if I “put you on Shuffle?”
PS. Don’t forget my great giveaways! I am doing a bunch at the moment!
