It’s Friday, so I am linking up with Courtney at Eat, Pray, Run DC, Cynthia at You Signed Up for What and Mar at Mar on the Run for their weekly linkup. Each Friday, they host a link up — a “Friday Five.” This week in honor of the Produce Alliance and Limoneira’s social media campaign to fight childhood hunger, I am going off theme with “5 Easy and Inexpensive Ways to Give Back.”
1. Participate in Produce Alliance and Limoneira‘s social media campaign to fight childhood hunger – #PAPuckerface. Say what? Today, Produce Alliance and Limoneira are combining their networks of over 20,000+ food industry partners to engage in the #PApuckerface social media challenge. Adults and children of all ages are encouraged to participate by biting into a lemon and taking a picture or video of their best “puckerface” to post on a social media site with the hashtag #PApuckerface. They are asking each individual to nominate 3 friends or family members to complete the #PApuckerface challenge to spread awareness of the fight against childhood hunger. You can see my #PApuckerface HERE on Instagram.
In addition to the #PApuckerface challenge, Produce Alliance will be collecting donations through the Produce Alliance Foundation to donate to various local/national organizations fighting childhood hunger.
2. Give away what you don’t need to help those who do. I know, I know, spring is the season known for cleaning. However, de-cluttering and getting organized is always a good thing. I wrote a post on this in 2012. Clean up and gather up the goods and clothing you do not need and donate it to a local thrift shop or if you are in Chicago, check out Zealous Good. Zealous Good makes it easy for people to donate items by connecting them to local Chicago non-profits with matching needs. They’ll often even pick them up! It’s a win-win.
3. Participate in or volunteer at a fundraiser run or charity event. Raise money or volunteer at a fundraising run or event. I am doing some great races with great causes and Fitfest to support Bright Pink’s campaign to educate women and girls on breast and ovarian cancer. Can’t make it? You can support our team here. Want to get in on the fun? You can check out Women’s Health Run10Feed10 which feeds 10 people for each runner and get $5 off your entry fee with code R10F10PR. Don’t want to run? You can still donate! Click here to learn more.
4. Shop Amazon with AmazonSmile. It’s easy! You shop. Amazon gives. AmazonSmile is a simple and automatic way for you to support your favorite charitable organization every time you shop, at no cost to you. When you shop at AmazonSmile, you’ll find the exact same prices, selection and convenient shopping experience as Amazon.com, with the added bonus that Amazon will donate a portion of the purchase price to your favorite charitable organization. You can choose from nearly one million organizations to support. See site for exclusions. This is a definite win-win at no additional cost to you!
5. Smile and be kinder. Here’s a freebie. Smile and say hello. Hold the door for a stranger. Say thank you. Tell someone when they have done an excellent job. You get it…It is free and you’ll feel good in the process, too!
What are you doing this fall to give back? Please let me know in the comments.
Have a great weekend, friends!
