Currently… A post on “things of the moment” for me (#10). [Inspired by Marcia and other bloggers.]
State of things: This year continues to fly by. A sweaty Labor Day weekend passed and we had a cold front. Well, make that a cold, rainy, intermittently sunny, strange front. After dying of heat in the Mag Mile Women’s races last weekend, we got rained out and chilled this morning at the Fit Foodie 5K. It was cancelled because the route was flooded. Womp womp. I have been traveling all over for work. Well, all over Kansas and soon to Seattle, more Kansas, Virginia and other places. The software I work with is an employee benefit for large corporations that works with their health benefits. It is open enrollment time and thus customers want to see us and have us talk to their employees. If you need me… check O’Hare or Kansas.
Books: I am reading The Sisters of Versailles by our friend Sally Christie. It is a historical novel about five sisters who were (almost) all involved with the King in the mid 1700s. That is not usually my thing, but this is a page turner! Sally has a way with scandal. Read this book!! I also read (and listened to) Dear Daughter by Elizabeth Little (loved it!), You by Caroline Kepnes (SO SO SO creepy!!), The Good Girl by Mary Kubica and In the Likely Event by Judy Blume. Note: do not read In the Likely Event on a plane. I made that mistake for you! Have you read anything I should check out lately?
Movies: I have not seen ANY! I want to see Straight Outta Compton. Have you seen anything good lately?
TV: Other than my Today Show treadmill obsession, I am not much for watching TV. We are about to finish Season 2 of Dexter. The last few episodes have been really good. I am a bit worried about how things are going for Doakes and Battista. Have you watched this series? Anything else good?
Website/Podcast: I listened to a few audio books as it seemed like some of my podcasts were in re-runs or not coming out at the end of the summer. I have been loving the Moth as usual though. This week, they had Fab Morvan from Milli Vanilli on their rise and fall. And last week, Josh Bond telling about capturing one of America’s Most Wanted criminals with the FBI. Have you heard anything good lately?
Run: I took a bit of a racing break this summer ..for me. I ran the Chicago RnR Half Marathon on 7/18 (Thank you, Humana and Fitfluential! – recap), Esprit de She 5K on 7/23 (3rd Female) and only one race in August (Humboldt Park 5K – 2nd female). September started off with the Mag Mile Women’s 5K on 9/6 (5th woman and 1st AG), Oak Brook Half Marathon on 9/7. The Fit Foodie 5K was cancelled yesterday due to flooding and I am running the Hub City Half Marathon in Crown Point, IN today! Plus, NYC Marathon training started on 7/17. I need to get my long run mojo back STAT! Full Q3 running round up coming on September 30. Who is running and where?
Non-Run Workouts: Not much new! I have been keeping up with the “Smart Workouts” on the J & J 7 Minute Workout and weekly pilates and yoga. I upgraded to a Fitbit Charge and am still a bit even more obsessed with getting my steps. I am excited to try some new classes at Bright Pink’s Fitfest fundraiser and got 2 free weeks at Class Pass to try other new studios. I also got a Gilt City pass for 5 classes at Iron and Oar – a new rowing/fitness studio in our ‘hood. I can’t wait to try it. Have you tried anything new?
Food/Drink: My cupboard runneth over again with great new products from cool companies. I have so many new things to try and lots of giveaways coming so stay tuned. I have a slew of Oatmega bars for review and giveaway. Get psyched – we are loving these! I also have some Bogg’s Trail Butter to share from their Crowd Supply perks. Also, Peanut Butter & Co has an extra Pumpkin Spice #PSILoveYou gift pack for one lucky reader. I tried these awesome coffee shots from PocketFuel that I found at Whole Foods in Overland Park, KS. Apparently they are hard to find. Luckily, I am going back on Monday! Check back tomorrow for that. I just got bars from The Primal Pantry and Paleo Protein Bars from Julian Bakery to try, as well. Have you tried anything awesome lately?
Excitement: We got to raise a glass to Liv and Andy last night. He surprised her with an engagement ring yesterday and a little celebration with family and friends in the evening to celebrate. What are you excited about?
Pet Peeve: Arriving early on a plane to have to sit for a ton of extra time on the tarmac until the gate is available. Extra peeve points if this is on Friday night. What is irking you lately?
Wish(es): Wishing for some beautiful fall weather from now on in. This is my favorite time of the year! What are you wishing for?
What is keeping you busy these days? Please share in the comments!
