You may remember my rave review of Racefood Fastbars. I was the first on my block to try Cranberry & Almond Racefood Fastbars. Racefood Fastbar is a nougat style energy bar from South Africa that is available in the US from my friends at RacePak (review). Tyler, one of RacePak’s founders, told me it was amazing. He was right! Recently, RacePak contacted me again to see if I wanted to try Racefood’s newest flavor: Coconut, Cacao & Cashew. Hell, yes. Of course I do!
Racefood Fastbar is a small, nougat based bar that is made up a great mix of simple and complex carbohydrates. The Cranberry & Almond Fastbar has protein and fats from the almonds and egg white and dried cranberries and honey for “a hint” of sweetness. The new Coconut, Cacao & Cashew has cashews, coconut, cacao in addition to the egg whites and honey. Racefood has no cholesterol, no preservatives, no artificial colors and is dairy and gluten free. In the spirit of full disclosure, glucose syrup and cane sugar are also in these bars. They say the formulation is created for “optimal energy release.”
Racefood can be used as an energy snack before or after any activity. They say “the real value is appreciated by endurance athletes who seek the right mix of simple and complex carbs that help them to maintain a sustained energy level during events.” Here are the facts about Racefood.
RacePak’s Take:
“Tired of gels? If you’ve been looking for a real food / healthy alternative to gels, your prayers have finally been answered. This “mini bar” is not only extremely portable, but unbelievably delicious. I would eat these even if I wasn’t in the midst of a workout. The fact that this natural food bar can taste this good and also fuel my workouts is almost too be true. Those South Africans really know how to make a great product.”
I shared my original Racefood Fastbars with Stacy, Kristin and Olivia. We are all big fans. I took two of the new Fastbars on our long run this weekend. They are nice and small and fit right into the pocket in the back of my sports tank. I didn’t even notice them.
Stacy, Olivia and I dug in with our Starbucks post run. 3 thumbs up! The Coconut, Cacao & Cashew is delicious. It is pretty sweet – a bit sweeter than the Cranberry & Almond. Each small bar is only 100 calories. I will say, I find it to more more than a “hint” sweet. I was a bit worried that it would be too sweet for mornings, but I have tried both flavors of Fastbars before morning running and yoga and they work well for me. I have used Fastbars to curb an afternoon sweet tooth, too. My advice – try Racefood Fastbars now!
