New Flavors & New Look from Yummari! – #Giveaway

yummari logoYou may remember a while ago, I reviewed Yummari Foods’ Chia Chargers and Chia Moxie peanut butter.  I tried Chia Moxie peanut butter and was interested in their Chia Chargers endurance nuggets. In a strange twist of fate, I was with a friend at the New York Athletic Club’s pre-NYC marathon dinner in 2013 and happened to be seated with Catherine Walsh. Catherine is one of the founders of Yummari (formerly NY Super Foods), the company that made Chia Moxie and Chia Chargers. It was a lucky coincidence for me!

Catherine has celiac disease and she and her husband, Jason, are both endurance athletes. They started making Chia Chargers in their kitchen “incubator” after reading about the superfood properties of chia seeds. They say, “our introduction to the chia seed prompted us to tinker with ingredients in our kitchen for several months and, after may experiments with different recipes, we created the first ever raw chia health energy bite: the Chia Charger.” They are also good corporate citizens. Yummari is a certified B Corp and a member of 1% for the Planet.

They recently rebranded these awesome fuels to Yummari Endurance Nuggets. These “nuggets” are made from two superfoods – hemp and chia seeds. They are organic, Non-GMO, gluten-free, peanut-free and contain no artificial ingredients. Each nugget contains 5 grams of plant-based protein, 7 grams of heart healthy fats and 12 grams of carbohydrates to fuel your workouts. They now come in five flavors: coconut, chocolate chip, chocolate banana, cranberry and coffee.

Stacy was spot on when she said, “they are super tasty and taste like a treat, but loaded with superfood nutrition.” They taste good and are good for you – a win-win! My fave is still the chocolate chip. The coffee nugget has a nice mild taste and even our friend, Brian, who does not drink coffee liked the taste. The cranberry and new chocolate banana and coconut are also tasty. These are mild and not too sweet and are very easy to digest for running. The only drawback with the Yummari nuggets is that you can get some chia in your teeth, so be sure to check a mirror (or run with a trusted friend!)

The Yummari team moved to Colorado last April. They say,The change in lifestyle and surroundings prompted us to move our manufacturing, change our recipe and packaging and earn our organic certification.” They just launched a Plum Alley (like Kickstarter with a strong focus on women owned businesses) campaign to raise $10,000. The funds they raise will help to pay for all of the changes, as well as their current Non-GMO Project Verification and B Corp Certification. The campaign has some awesome perks including an option for a 50% off coupon to fellow Boulder B-corp Newton Running and lots of product perk options.
