If you come around here often, you know I love trying new products in my healthy subscription boxes. I tried Artisan Tropic Plantain Chips in my Urthbox late last year and loved them. I checked out the company to learn more. They are a family owned business in Charlotte, NC by way of Bogota, Colombia. Their mission is to share their family’s passion for healthy living. Their youngest daughter was ill and sought the assistance of a holistic nutritionist in her recovery. The idea to share delicious, nutritious food from their home country was born.
I wrote to them and they offered a limited time blogger sample box so that reviewers could test out all of their products. The sampler included a variety of Plantain Strips, Cassava Strips and Baked Fruit Thins. All of the products are 100% natural, non-GMO, gluten-free, vegan and paleo certified.
The plantain and cassava strips come in sea salt flavor and the plantain chips also come in “naturally sweet” and cinnamon. All varieties have three ingredients or less. Read about the health benefits here. Plantains are rich in potassium, fiber, vitamin A and C. Cassava root has calcium, phosphorus and vitamin C and is mineral rich, too. All of the chips are sliced thin and lengthwise and are super crunchy. They are perfect alone or with a dip or crunched into a salad or soup. I like all of the flavors but am partial to the both types of chips with sea salt. They are simple, delicious and nutritious. I think these are thinner than some of the competitor chips, so it feels like you get more bang for your buck portion size wise to me.
The Baked Fruit Thins come in Mango, Pineapple and Coconut. The Baked Fruit Thins contain no sulfur, preservatives or artificial flavors. All of the thins are fiber rich and contain only fruit with “a touch” of cane sugar. They are “100% crispy!” They are cut super thin and are SO crunchy. You have never tasted anything like this! It is hard to pick a favorite, but if you twist my arm, I will go with the Mango. It is sweet and delicious and so light! The whole 1 oz package of Mango or Pineapple has only 100 calories! (170 for Coconut) I loved it plain but you could have it with cereal, oatmeal, yogurt or ice cream, too.
