It’s Friday, so I am linking up with Courtney at Eat, Pray, Run DC, Cynthia at You Signed Up for What and Mar at Mar on the Run for their weekly linkup. Each Friday, they host a link up — a “Friday Five.” This week’s topic is “Five Things I was Doing 10 Years Ago.” I love this one… it makes me reflect on what has changed and what has stayed the same. And, is it turns out… many things are the “same” with a new twist.
1. Living in NYC – This is the biggest change. We were solidly planted in the Big Apple. Well, we were in Brooklyn Heights to be more accurate. The Husband and I were in our first (owned) apartment which was in an amazing co-op in a former church. Our “church” was part the Underground Railroad back when that was a thing. Our apartment had old pine floors where the pews used to be and beautiful stained glass windows. I used to run over the Brooklyn Bridge regularly as part of my morning route. It is still one of my favorite spots in NYC. We had no plans to move. Then… life. *Different*
2. Running strong! I ran 4 marathons in 2005 including my personal best and 20 other races. When I looked at Athlinks, I realized that I ran 5 6 SEVEN current personal bests that year including the half marathon, 4 miler, 3.5 miler and (post high school) 5K (just noticed the 15K and 10 miler that are cut off is also a personal best – wow). Running is a constant for me and I am proud to say that I am still doing just fine – albeit somewhat slower. *Same* (well…similar)
3. Looking for deals and finds – Some things never change. I was big on the internet shopping deals back in the day, too! I was always looking for the best deal on my gear, clothes and pretty much everything. Scott and I used to spot new companies and deals in the early 2000s and compare our wins on the run. Some notable sites that I have stuck with ebates and Sierra Trading Post, but I have many new faves, too. *Same* (but not as advanced ten years ago ;))
4.Working from home – I started working from home in 2005 for Health Dialog and since then I have worked 2 other jobs from home and 2 from and office and now I am back working from home again with my current job. *Same* (but not continuously)
5. Traveling and enjoying life with The Husband – Ten years ago, The Husband and I took our first trip to Asia to visit Montserrat and George in Hong Kong and then we went to Cambodia to visit Angkor Wat. We were able to visit them again in 2007 and hit Vietnam. One major improvement is our digital camera. These snaps are from our first digital camera (which stored about 50 pictures) and in retrospect they are pretty terrible. We LOVED this trip. *Same* (but we need to up our game again as the last BIG trip we took was in 2012 to S. Africa for our 10 year wedding anniversary)
What were you doing 10 years ago? Same, same or different?
Have a great weekend!
