Currently… A post on “things of the moment” for me (#9). [Inspired by Marcia and other bloggers.]
State of things: My last currently post had me not knowing if I was coming or going. I had a much calmer April and May so far. I was only on 8 plane segments since then and 2 were for pleasure and 2 were a mix of business and pleasure. The Husband and I have been busy and still have not seen a ton of one another. We are going on a quick NYC trip TOGETHER next weekend so that will be fun. We’ll get some quality time together and with good friends. A win-win. Work, blog and life have been super busy. Trying to keep my best foot forward. I hit a few bumps in the road over the last few weeks. I will keep plugging along.
Books: I binge read a bunch of Catriona King mysteries. I made it part of the way through Jane Smiley’s Some Luck for book club. Zzzzzz. I loved the Rules of Inheritance by Claire Bidwell Smith (which was recommended by new fave podcaster Jessica Murnane in The One Part Podcast). I read Jennifer Weiner’s All Fall Down. De-press-ing. Maybe too close to home for a woman who tries to do it all can spiral into addiction. I am almost done with Beyond Belief by Jenna Miscavage Hill which is about Scientology. She gets too far in the weeds but it is pretty fascinating. (Interestingly, it gets tons of 4 and 5 stars on Amazon). Have you read anything I should check out lately?
Movies: I have not seen any movies at all since my last post. Hard to imagine… but true! I did watch part of the Blues Brothers with The Husband and I am not sure I “get it.” The Husband is shaking his head. Have you seen anything good lately?
TV: Other than my Today Show treadmill obsession, I am not much for watching TV. We are watching the last season of Mad Men. I love how they are unwinding it and can’t wait for the finale (but then I will be sad). We started watching True Detective. It is very different that I expected. The acting is amazing. Unfortunately, it is tough to blog and watch. (Read: I have to pay closer attention.) We are looking forward to the next season of Orange is the New Black. What is on your TV dance card these days?
Website/Podcast: I am really enjoying the new season of Start Up. I also have started listening to The Health Beet from Sarah and Peter at the Seasonal Diet and The One Part Podcast by Jessica Murnane of One Part Plant I have been enjoying both of those! I wrote a post on these.
Run: Since last time I wrote this post, I ran the Shamrock Shuffle 8K on 3/29, The Good Life Race 5K in Oak Park on 4/12 and the half marathon in SLO on 4/26 with Erin, Quarryman 10 miler on 5/9. I ran a bit faster in Shamrock this year than last despite a very windy day, the same time in Oak Park as last time I ran and slower that last year in Quarryman (a trend – the course seems to get tougher every year. I don’t think it is my imagination!) This was my inaugural SLO half marathon and it was a super challenging course – especially for this flatlander but I really loved it. Next up, the Brooklyn 1/2 on May 16th (decided to go because a dear friend is running her first half ever!), the Ridge Run 10K and 5K, Grandma’s Marathon in Duluth, MN on 6/20. Who is running and where?
Non-Run Workouts: Not much new! Same as last time. I did try Soul Cycle for a second time. Not. for. me. Otherwise, I have been keeping up with the “Smart Workouts” on the J & J 7 Minute Workout and weekly pilates and yoga. Still wearing my Fitbit and still a bit obsessed with getting my steps. Have you tried anything new?
Food/Drink: My cupboard runneth over again with great new products from cool companies. I have so many new things to try and lots of giveaways coming so STAY TUNED. I went to a great luncheon at Jewel to launch their O Organic line, a blogger party at the Brass Monkey, a 70s themed restaurant, with Sapna, the Daiya Dairy Free Cheezecake launch party and an allergen free tasting session at Now We’re Cookin’. I mentioned that I have delicious granola from Cocomama to review and share. I have also been trying Super Pop! Bars (review + giveaway coming tomorrow!), Terranut Cold Pressed Food Snacks, Bearded Brothers Bold Bars, Benefit Foods VBars and more! Have you tried anything awesome lately?
Excitement: We get to go to Brooklyn to see our friends and cheer Emily to her first half marathon finish AND it is a “we” trip, not just a me trip!
Pet Peeve: People who pull rank and go over your head to manipulate the system. It is demeaning and discouraging. What is irking you lately?
Wish(es): I wish our moms and all of the moms out there a Happy Mother’s Day! I hope that everyone treats you like a queen today. You deserve it!
What is keeping you busy these days? Please share in the comments!
