You know I love perks through the Chicago Area Runner’s Association (CARA) (post). In December, I saw a special for CARA members from KoreExtreme on their ThermXRoller. I contacted them and they offered to send me a ThermXRoller to try out and then to send one to giveaway to a reader. Awesome!
The ThermXRoller is specially designed to provide a pressure massage and relieve aches. The “X” design targets both large and small muscle groups for “optimal soreness relief.”And the coolest thing? These foam rollers have 100% natural cotton covers made of natural corn that can be heated in the microwave or cooled in the freezer. Combined with their “X” shape design, they are perfect for pain relief and stretching in the low back, hamstrings, quadriceps, calves and outer thighs. You can watch these videos for specific exercises. In my opinion, some of them are self explanatory and others need a bit of guidance.
The covering is easy to remove to heat or freeze. To test the ThermXRoller, I heated up the pad in my microwave. I did it for 75 seconds and then the additional 45 seconds because it did not seem super hot the first time. They say to do 2 minutes max. The funny thing to me is that it smells like popcorn – it is corn but don’t worry, it doesn’t pop! I reattached the pad and tried it on my lower back first. That is my most common/needed foam roller spot. I loved the additional heat to loosen up the tight muscles. Then I tried it on my neck. That was so awesome! I have to watch the videos to see the best way to hit some of my other trouble spots. The shape is cool. It is different than my usual, basic foam roller so I have to learn the best positioning and ways to use it to hit shoulders and legs. I haven’t tried it cold yet, but I will. Embarrassing as it is to admit, I never know when to ice. I guess because I usually foam roll my back, it seems that heat works better for me. An awesome thing about the ThermXRoller is that you can buy an extra cover and keep it cold and have one for heat.
The ThermXRoller with one cover is $59.99. An additional cover is $29.99. It is extremely well made and durable. It is also made completely in the USA and the company is located right here in Chicago. They also founded an organization called Hero’s Home to help soldiers, police and firemen injured in the line of duty. How awesome is that? They also make a full line of in home and gym based fitness products under the KoreFit name.
