OK, it’s crunch time. If you are the resolution-ing type, you might like to check out a great app for setting (and attaining) goals and changing habits for the best. I love the idea of anything that can help us create good habits and kill the bad ones. Last year, I saw this review of the app Lift in Dot Complicated‘s newsletter. I also participated in a study they did on changing eating habits. It was really cool.
One main purpose of Lift is to help you form (or break) habits and meet goals. It has a simple design and user interface. You enter a the list of habits you want to form/stop. At the end of the day, you check off the ones you successfully completed/avoided. The app resets at midnight and keeps track of how many days per week or month you successfully achieve your goal. Don’t know what to target? There is a list of common habits/goals to choose from.
Lift “helps you achieve your goals big or small” in three steps:
- Set Goals – Browse the most popular habits or create your own.
- See Your Progress – They’ll give you a personalized report that tells you how you’re doing.
- Get Support – Friends keep you accountable and cheer you on. (Optional – especially if you are like me and feel like you have more than enough sharing in your life!)
If you have trouble creating a plan to fit your goals, they offer free “featured” plans for a variety of goals for you to follow. They now also offer expert in app coaching for $14.99. Seems like a great deal!
Lift is available for iOS, Android or online (free).
Other apps I love to fitness and health goals:
Body Weight Strength Training J & J 7 Minute Workout – The originator of the 7 minute workout and fitness experts from Johnson & Johnson have introduced the Official 7 Minute Workout App! This FREE app guides you through the “fast, simple and scientifically proven body-weight workout.” All you need is a wall, a chair, and a little bit of floor space. It is perfect for home work outs or wherever you are! In addition to the 12 exercises, you can also do “Smart Workouts,” or choose from a variety of workouts in the “Workout Library,” which combine additional exercises based on your current level of fitness. They also have video guides to each exercise, multiple effort levels, the ability to listen to your itunes library during your workout and much more! The app is free and is currently available for Android, iOS 6, iOS7, iPhone and iPad.
If you have “start running” (or “improve running”) as a 2015 resolution, check out Strava Run. Strava is an GPS based app that tracks your runs. With a free app/account, you get mile splits, elevation, maps and “challenges.” The app tracks time moving and stopped, splits per mile, elevation change per mile and shows you maps. The app does not keep the screen lit, so the draw on the iPhone power is very minimal. One cool thing I noticed with the newer version is that I can see my same course progress over last year. This app is a keeper! See my full review HERE. You can download the free Strava Run iPhone app (or Strava Run for Android) and track your runs. Once you complete and save your run, the data is sent automatically to Strava.com. Learn about external devices that are compatible with apps here.
Want to learn to meditate? Check out Headspace and the Headspace app. Headspace is meditation made simple. Learn online, when you want, wherever you are, in just 10 minutes a day.
