A few years ago, I saw an ad in Women’s Health for a new run series called Run10Feed10. The aim was simple – to raise money to feed millions of Americans who are hungry. For each runner who signed up to run 10K, ten meals would be provided to hungry Americans in the runner’s community. This is an easy way to make a difference to a family (or several) in your community.
I remember thinking what a simple, yet inspired, idea this was. I did the fun run the first year in Chicago and had a blast at the first race last year. Women’s Health offered me an entry this year to spread the word and I said “Yes!” In fact, I thought I had signed up but I just kicked off a fundraising page – oops!
This Sunday, October 19th, RUN10 FEED10 will host a timed 10K race starting and ending at Chicago’s Diversey Harbor. The race starts at 8:00 AM. A race was completed in New York City in September and there will also be one in San Francisco on October 26th. Expanding its reach this year, Women’s Health held “Fun Runs” in Minneapolis, MN, Denver, CO, Houston, TX, Los Angeles, CA, Phoenix, AZ, Atlanta, GA and Boston, MA. The last fun run is in Washington D.C. on October 18th.
Want to run with me in Chicago or to run in San Francisco? The race fee is $55 and you can get $5 off with the code R10F10PR. You get to enjoy the race, get tons of awesome loot at the post race festival (which includes yoga and lots of other fun stuff) plus a donation of 10 meals to a local Chicago food bank will be made on your behalf. Also, included in the registration fee is a 2014 limited edition FEED bag and a FEED bracelet as a special finisher prize.
If you do not live in one of the Women’s Health host cities, or if you missed your fun run, you can still participate. Just register on Run10Feed10 ($28) and use the RUN10 FEED10 training app, created by WalkJogRun, to plot your own course and run your own 10K anytime. You get a limited edition FEED bag and 10 meals will be donated to charity.
No interest in running? There are two additional ways to get in on the action and make a difference:
- Donate via Crowdrise.
- Shop! Women’s Health has also partnered with PlanG offering a charitable online shopping option for fundraisers. You can earn giving dollars with your favorite retailers that will go directly to The FEED Foundation on behalf of RUN 10 FEED 10. You’ll transform your everyday shopping into feats of purpose.
Let me know if you are running in Chicago and I will be on the look out for you on Sunday morning!
Please note: I was given a free entry to Run10Feed10 by Women’s Health to spread the word. All of my opinions are my own. This is a race I support and intended to register for. I donated my registration fee to my Crowdrise fundraiser in support of the FEED Foundation.
