This blog generally steers away from the political AND the the religious. However, I heard a great story on the radio about “Nuns on the Bus.”
NETWORK’s Nuns on the Bus are “on the road” again. This year, their 10-state, 36-city, 75-event tour aimed to stand up against big money in the 2014 midterm elections.
They say:
We the People, in order to form a more perfect union, must:
Vote: Strong voter turnout overpowers the influence of big money in politics. Dollars can’t vote, you can.
Encourage Others to Vote: When we encourage people to vote, we make sure that the voices of the 100% are heard. Urge and help others to vote.
Hold Candidates Responsible: When we demand that candidates commit to policies that benefit the 100%, we can all hold them accountable when elected. When the people vote, politicians listen.
Their key issues: Mend the wealth gap, enact a living wage, craft a budget that benefits the 100%, secure healthcare for all, protect immigrant rights and promote nonviolent solutions to conflict. I doubt I agree with them on all issues, but I do agree with the spirit of their movement.
Sing it sisters! You can check out the making of a documentary on the Nuns on the Bus and more info HERE.
Also, Finds’ friend, Sangeeta, sent me a great resource for Illinois voters. She says, “If you are planning to vote (it’s your right and a privilege – don’t take it for granted), please consider using the attached guides to ensure qualified judges are elected. It can be overwhelming, that’s why the Illinois Bar Association conducts detailed background investigations to help us make informed decisions. Each candidate is reviewed in a comprehensive evaluation process called Judges Evaluations. Please see links for Cook County and All Other Counties.”
I have never been a fan of dressing up for Halloween (bad childhood Halloween costume memories… don’t ask) but I do love other people’s costumes and candy. I also like people to have fun on Halloween! Here are some great “trick and treat” apps for you and the kids to amp up your Halloween festivities from the Patch.
Folks have been asking about runner tracking for the marathon this Sunday. If you all promise not to judge my splits/pace, I will share the link! You can download the 2014 TCS New York City Marathon Mobile App – iOs or Android to track your favorite runners.
The app features: live tracking of runners (up to 10) with splits at the start, every 5K, half, and finish; live pro-athlete leaderboard; spectator course-map points of interest; race calendar; expo information; race FAQs and marathon stats.
And remember, please don’t judge! Marathoning is hard!
