This week I will share some new protein powered finds. They are pretty much polar opposites – one is plant based and vegan and one is for meat eaters. Whichever way you like it, here are some great new options for healthy fueling.
I wrote a post about how awesome hemp this summer. I learned that hemp seeds are a nearly perfect food source. It is high in digestible protein, healthy Omega essential fatty acids (EFAs) and naturally occurring minerals. Hemp seeds are also free of gluten and have no known allergens. You can learn more about hemp HERE. Due to my role as a Sweat Pink Ambassador with Fit Approach, I was able to try a new (to me) protein powder from Manitoba Harvest made with hemp.
Manitoba Harvest HempPro 70 is the world’s first water soluble hemp protein powder. You can easily mix HempPro 70 in a shaker cup and it blends right in to your drink. With 14 grams of protein per serving, HempPro 70 Chocolate is a complete plant based protein, offering “all essential” amino acids. It is also gluten free and soy free and, of course, vegan. They say, “It is mild tasting with a creamy texture that is delicious when added to your favorite smoothie recipe, or stirred into yogurt and hot cereal!” They have a page showing the three different hemp protein options they offer. The Hemp Pro 70 has no added fiber and is good for athletes pre/post workout, those on the go and people who are looking for an easy way to add more protein to their diets. See the comparison here.
So it is really good for us, but how does it taste? I have to admit, the Chocolate Hemp 70 mixed with almond milk and shaken tasted a bit… well, not chocolate-y to me. I did not love it. I did get used to it and it was easy on my stomach after my half marathon on Sunday. That said, I think it may be an acquired taste. I decided to take a different approach with the Vanilla Hemp 70 (which is GREEN by the way!) I added a cup of coffee, ice, almond milk and the Vanilla protein powder. It needed a bit of sweetener even still. It did keep me full and I can see making this as a quick post-run breakfast option. So my vote to reap the awesome nutrition benefits of Hemp 70 is to add it to something with a stronger flavor like coffee or into oatmeal with cinnamon and dried fruit.
Want to try it? You can get 20% off the Pro 70 Vanilla and Chocolate flavors on the website with the code: sweatpinkpro70.
You can keep up with Manitoba Harvest on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest.
Please note: I was not compensated for this review, but I did receive the product at no cost. All opinions are my own.
Hemp not for you? Carnivore? How about trying new Finds’ fave Nick’s Sticks? Nick’s Sticks snack sticks are made from the highest quality grass-fed beef and free-range turkey raised on small family farms in the Midwest and seasoned with organic spices. They use only the best ingredients and their snack-stick casing is free of red dye.
These are really clean snacks. The contain NO MSG, nitrates, antibiotics, hormones, sugar red dye or gluten. Nick’s Sticks come in four flavors: Beef, Spicy Beef, Turkey and Spicy Turkey. Each pack is 1.7 oz and contains two sticks. The beef flavors are 120 calories and only 60 calories each stick. The turkey flavors are only 75 calories or less than 40 calories per stick.
The husband and I like all of the flavors. He prefers the beef ones and I tend to pick the turkey ones so we are a great match! I shared some with of the Spicy Turkey with Stacy on a road trip and she was a fan, too. It has a little kick but does not leave your mouth on fire. These sticks are not greasy like some jerky style sticks. They are also a great way to get some protein as an afternoon snack. These are great for traveling. I am planning to buy a stash for my upcoming trips.
You don’t have to take my word for it! Nick’s Sticks sent me one of each flavor to try and one of each flavor to giveaway. Please use the Rafflecopter below to enter. The winner must be 18 years of age or older, a US resident and the offer is void where prohibited. The giveaway runs through September 17th. A winner will be selected and notified on September 18th.
In the meantime, you can keep up with Nick’s Sticks on Facebook and Twitter.
PS. Don’t forget my other great giveaways!
