Shout is a new mobile app that allows people to “exchange freely with those around them.” You can offer something up for sale or make a request. Each “Shout” is linked to a location, has a price, and a short description. Here is how it works:
If a user accepts a “Shout,” they are put into a real-time chat to work out the details. Once everything is set, they can pay within the app. Shout takes care of every aspect of an exchange from post to chat to payment. Cool, huh?
I checked out Shout and it is only in NYC so far. It looks pretty awesome and in true NYC fashion, folks are offering dinner reservations at hot restaurants for a small (or not so small) fee. There are also some show tickets, concerts and even CRONUTS! I look forward to having this hit Chicago. It seems like a great way to snag last minute tix or to sell them if something else comes up. Follow on Twitter to see when Shout is available by you. The app is free on iOS and in beta for Android.
I have been meaning to check out and write up thredUp when I saw Logan’s review this week at Logan Can. Logan got a bunch of clothes from great brands for herself and her son at a fraction of the retail cost. She also requested a “Clean Out Bag” that thredUp sends free of charge. Now, when she is ready, she can send them her/her son’s gently worn clothes and they will send 80% of the resale value! Read more about how it works here.
ThredUp says, “We’re like a consignment store, but simpler. On thredUP you can refresh your entire wardrobe online without ever leaving your house.” You can choose from thousands of like-new clothing items, which they’ve hand-selected and certified for quality. You’ll find all your favorite brands discounted up to 90% off, year-round. When you’re done with your clothing, you can just fill up a thredUP bag and put it on your doorstep. ThredUP covers the shipping and pays you for every item they can sell.
ThredUp has women’s, men’s, kids, maternity, plus sizes and accessories. They also now have “X Collection” for upmarket, contemporary brands. They have clothes that are “new with tags” and gently used.
