Friday Finds: #wycwyc, Thoughtful Compilers + 7/4 Deals!

I saw something so brilliant, I was just sad that I had not thought of it myself. There is a twitter hashtag and a movement around #wycwyc (and a website that compiles tweets and Instagram posts). Initially, I thought of my old WYSIWYG from old spreadsheet technology! Then I checked out the website. #wycwyc is defined as:

wycwyc
So brilliant – what you can when you can. Start now!

This handle was “born from a longing to end perfectionist tendencies and the ‘start tomorrow’ mindset.” They say, “the #wycwyc movement reminds us doing what we can when we can is enough. There is no starting over, no magic day of the week, no throwing away the day. By doing what we can when we can we will reach our goals. Doing something is ALWAYS better than doing nothing and Incremental shifts add up to change over time.” Amen!

This is an approach that I have tried to follow since the 90s when my Consulting career gave me only 15 minutes to run or workout on some days. Instead of doing nothing, I ran for 15 minutes. Now, if I am short on time, I do a 7 minute workout or some “Hot5” segments (see this post for links to those apps). If I had know this was “a thing,” I would have started my own movement. Kidding here, but I think this is a solid philosophy and something to remind ourselves of in our hectic lives.

You can join the #wycwyc movement on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and your blog by using the #wycwyc hashtag.

innobites

I also found a cool new website called Inobites. They say, “Innovate or die. Bite-size survival tactics for a modern world. Bites by Luke Eid, Global Director of Innovation at TBWA Worldwide.” The site offers some very simple statements to get you thinking and some statements with links to articles to support their premises.

Here are some examples:

Over 37 billion is spent each year on unproductive meetings. Here are three things to ask yourself before calling the next meeting: INFOGRAPHIC

I am really digging this site. I am following on Twitter, too!

In case you missed it, check out Skimm_LogotheSkimm, an awesome, addictive daily newsletter that sums up the news with personality.

They say, “theSkimm is an email newsletter for anyone short on time.” Their concept is simple. They read. We Skimm. They “cross party and subject lines to break down what it seems everyone else is talking about.”

I started getting theSkimm when I originally posted about it  and I LOVE it! The writing is succinct and clever. I feel like my savvy friends are telling me the scoop. It is good to have friends in the know. Each day they have a “quote of the day”, tops stories, “repeat after me” (which I think is a recap of yesterday’s important stories) and the new “things to know.”

I recommend checking out theSkimm. You can sign up for daily emails HERE.
