Nicole from Organic Sunshine contacted me to see if I would be interested in trying her natural and organic bath/beauty products line called “It’s the Balm.” I loved the name and the concept when I checked out her Etsy shop, so I said “yes.” Great news! Nicole offered to send one reader the products I reviewed, as well!
It’s The Balm is an eco-friendly company that handcrafts premium natural and organic products. Each ingredient is hand-selected for its soothing and healing properties. Any ingredient not found in Nicole’s garden is purchased from organic, fair-trade and environmentally-friendly distributors to “protect your skin and the environment.” It’s The Balm started off as a hobby. Nicole started making her own natural lip balms and body care products to “live a more natural life.” She has been able to eliminate almost 100% of synthetic chemicals from her beauty routine. That’s pretty cool!
It’s the Balm products are: never tested on animals, are FREE of Paraben, Phthalate, Petroleum, Phosphate, Sulfate, Detergent and GMOs, biodegradable, mild and nourishing, safe and effective. It’s the Balm products are “lovingly handcrafted to replenish your skins natural balance while healing imperfections and indulging you with the aromatherapy benefits of essential oil. Each product contains a unique blend of naturally healing oils and butters provided by Mother Nature.” Four primary natural ingredients are used in “It’s The Balm” products: base oils and butters, essential oils, botanicals and natural additives.
Nicole sent me the Natural Essentials Kit in Sweet Citrus. It contains Key Lime Kiss Lip Balm, Citrus Sugar Scrub, Sexy Key Lime Whipped Body Cream and Eucalyptus-Spearmint Linen Spray.
I tried the Key Lime Kiss Lip Balm first. It has a nice thick consistency and a great lime taste. It is made of Organic Beeswax, Organic Coconut Oil, Organic Shea Butter, Sweet Almond Oil, Organic Raw Honey, Essential Oil, Vitamin E. All good and definitely natural. I have been using it for a few weeks and it lasts quite a while. I like that I apply it once in the morning and my lips don’t feel dried out a few hours later like some other products. It is also a very reasonable $4!
Next, I tried the Eucalyptus-Spearmint Linen Spray. Nicole says, “This light misting linen spray will prepare you for pure relaxation. The relaxing blend of essential oil is designed to be calming and create a peaceful feeling. The eucalyptus and spearmint are sweet and subtle. Made with natural ingredients and pure therapeutic grade essential oil. This is a truly indulgent relaxation experience.” I spritzed our pillows and our bedroom a nice smell and gave me a lift when I went to bed. I have been spritzing a few times a week when I remember!
Before running on Saturday morning, I used some of the Whipped Body Cream on my dry legs. They say, “This whipped body cream is made with natural and organic skin softening ingredients. It has a Sexy Key Lime scent from pure essential oil. Your skin will be absolutely glowing after using this fluffy, rich body cream.” I agree. The cream is very firm. You only need a small amount per leg. The smell is really nice and citrusy. I got soaked by rain, but when I came back from 12 rainy miles, my legs still felt smooth and lovely. I am definitely a fan.
Last, I tried the Citrus Sugar Scrub. They say, “This Citrus Sugar Scrub is made with natural and organic skin softening ingredients. It has a refreshing citrus scent from pure essential oil. Your skin will be absolutely glowing after using this magical scrub.” The scrub smells delicious – it contains sugar and coconut butter among other things. It was a bit messy and to be honest, it made me kind of hungry — luckily I already brushed my teeth (mostly kidding). That said, I gave it a good rub and used the sugar crystals to exfoliate. It felt a bit oily, but when I washed it all off and cleaned the sink, I noticed that my skin felt super soft. And it still did when I woke up the next morning! Nice! Of all of the products, this may be the one I would be the least likely to use on a regular basis, but I do like the results. It is a bit more messy than my usual cleansers, so I can see using it as a “treat.”
It’s the Balm also makes custom products and favors for baby or bridal showers, too. Good stuff! The prices are also very reasonable. The kit I tried is $25.00. All of the products – especially the body cream – seem like they will go a long way. In addition to these products/lines, It’s the Balm also makes facial cleanser, hand soap, hand sanitizer, foot scrubs, body lotion and belly balm for pregnant women.
