State of things: Summer is finally here. Well, it is most days. We have definitely had some strange ups and downs, but the heat is (mostly) on. I am on Day 84 of my 100 Happy Days challenge and am enjoying looking for and capturing the little things that make me smile every day. I think I will keep this up. If not on Instagram, in my mind. You know? Gratitude and recognition of the good in life makes for a happier me. One bummer, yesterday I missed my 25 year high school reunion. I enjoyed seeing pictures on Facebook. It did not look as well attended as 20 or 10, but it would have been fun to see folks.
Books: I found an awesome site for e-book deals from Harper Collins. Book Perk offers $1.99 deals for e-book versions of books by writers you know (think Wally Lamb) and writers you don’t. I am loving Miss Me When I’m Gone by Emily Arsenault and just downloaded Skinny: A Novel by Diana Spechler. I also read the Fault in Our Stars by John Green (very good) and The Impossible Lives of Greta Wells by Andrew Sean Greer. I am still shocked that the latter was written by a man and liked the premise/approach but am baffled by the end. I just saw that there is a new Tana French book coming out in September. YAY!
Movies: I need to see Fed Up but otherwise nothing has been striking my interest. I am not a blockbuster gal. Have you seen anything good?
TV: Other than my Today Show treadmill obsession, I am not much for watching TV. We are watching season two of Orange is the New Black. We are 10 episodes in and it is getting good. I did not love the start of the season. It was too divergent from the book… but I get it they have to make changes to keep it going. Anyone else watching OITNB?
Run: Since I updated you in April, I have run 8 races. 4 5Ks, 1 10 miler, 1 half marathon and 2 10Ks. One of the 5Ks was less than one hour after one of the 10Ks. Lots of running and racing. I will give a full end of quarter report. I am a bit slower than last year but am still having fun! I also have been convinced to try a crazy new event and distance in July. More on that when I sign up/finalize the details!
Non-Run Workout: The usual Pilates and Spin. I have also started doing the “Smart Workouts” on The J & J 7 Minute Workout and 5 – 15 minutes of workouts on Hot 5 Fitness which is about 30 – 45 minutes of strength workouts 3 or 4 times a week. So 1 – 2 hours more than I was doing before this. I am not going to lie, I am damned proud of myself.
Food: I found so many new awesome snacks at the Snack Show and via Undiscovered Kitchen. I am currently testing out raw, vegan, all natural, GF (delicious) snacks from TastyMakes (Get 15% off with code tm32), cricket flour (!) cookies from Bitty, Tiger Nuts (which are not nuts) and The Gilded Nut’s pistachios and more. Excitement: I have had some interesting professional opportunities popping up lately. My fingers are crossed that one of them will work out. I will keep you posted!
Pet Peeve: Bikers on the sidewalks giving me dirty looks for walking on the sidewalk in their way. It’s illegal people! Don’t look at me like that! Extra peeve points for Divvy bikers with no helmets.
Wish: It is a secret but I will let you know if it comes true!
