I was reading a newsletter this week from Experience Life and Revolutionary Act and wanted to re-post/update this post from the first year I was blogging. It is great stuff and I know not many people saw my post then!
[From 2012] OK… I came across something that I am a wee bit obsessed with at the moment! I read a post on a health and wellness blog that I like by Pilar Gerasimo. She is the editor of Experience Life magazine and the author of “Being Healthy Is a Revolutionary Act: A Manifesto for Thriving in a Mixed Up World,” a work that provided the basis for the website Revolutionary Act and 101 Revolutionary Ways to Be Healthy.
So what is this all about? Revolutionary Act is a grassroots movement created to inspire and motivate people to live healthy, happy, satisfying lives. They believe “being healthy is a revolutionary act, especially in an unhealthy society like ours.”
I could write a post on every single one of these 101 ways to be healthy… and I probably will! Go to 101 Revolutionary Ways to Be Healthy and mouse over any of the items for a description. Each of these got me thinking, wanting to try harder, to discuss and get busy!
Here are five that really caught my attention with the descriptions from the website:
15. Raise your sights – “Don’t get sucked in by obsessions with six-pack abs and buns of steel. Don’t play “compare the bodies.” Fulfill your best-self vision.”
20. Aim for 85% – “You don’t have to make 100% healthy choices all the time. It’s what you do most of the time — day in, day out — that counts. The healthier you get, the easier and more automatic healthy choices will become.”
49. Look beyond unrealistic role models – “Find your inspiration in people whose lives and goals have some relevance to your own. Also remember that most of the pictures you see of celebrities and fitness models have been extensively retouched.”
54. Reframe exercise as a privilege – “You don’t have to exercise. You get to exercise. Visit a person whose mobility is severely limited, and you’ll appreciate the distinction. Do what you can, and count yourself lucky.”
59. Get past body envy – “Release supermodel and celebrity obsessions. Translate your desire for a fitter, more beautiful body into positive, self-respecting daily action that nourishes you and makes you stronger.”
[Update] I finally downloaded the app. Each day you can get a summary of one list item plus several articles and links to read more. This library is updated often and contains over 450 articles. You can read and share all of the links!
What do you think? Are you curious? Inspired? I would love to hear which ones resonate with you and why!
