As I mentioned last week, I recently tried some 100% recycled polyester running tops from Atayne!
Atayne makes “progressive outdoor and active apparel that drives positive environmental and social change.” Their key tenets are Environmental Sensitivity, Human Safety and Local Economic Support. ALL of their products are made from 100% recycled polyester, the materials they use are certified to be free of harmful chemicals and they are made in the USA from start to finish. By using 100% recycled polyester, derived from plastic bottles, Atayne’s products prevent usable materials from going into landfills and save considerable energy and water compared to “virgin” polyester.  Also, all printing is done with inks free of hormone disrupting phthalates.
They have some awesome stats to show. In 2012, Atayne’s operations prevented nearly 6.5 metric tons of plastic bottles from going into landfills, conserved over 94,000 kilowatt hours of energy, saved 25 metric tons of CO2 from being emitted, conserved 56,000 liters of drinking water, and supported 4 full-time American manufacturing jobs.
The idea for Atayne was born from the founder’s experience with a performance shirt that bled red all over him, and his socks and shoes, on a hot day in 2007. This experience helped to launch a company dedicated to inspiring positive social and environmental change through the power of active lifestyles. If you love to run, bike, hike, or just be active, Atayne provides the perfect apparel to “play hard, tread lightly, and express a positive point of view.”
Atayne sent me two items from their new “cause” collection. I chose the Run Hard, Tread Lightly short sleeve and Reduce. Reuse. Recycle. Run. long sleeve. They are both flattering and comfortable. I got a bunch of compliments at the gym on the short sleeve. I wore the long sleeve twice to run without washing and it did not smell, too! It also fits well and is really lightweight. These shirts are awesome! The one thing that you should know is that the new shirts have a bit of a different odor (can’t put my finger on it). Don’t worry, the odor disappeared after one washing. A really cool thing on the colored top, the colors and design do not get washed out after many washings. The shirts also dry quickly and can be worn several times with just rinsing them out – great for travel!
If this is not cool enough, you can be a part of the solution. You can send your used 100% polyester running shirts in to be recycled and get $5 credit per shipment of shirts. See more info HERE. Also, if you sign up for their newsletter, you will get a coupon code for free shipping on your next order! (And don’t worry, they don’t send you a ton of e-mail!)
The awesome folks at Atayne are going to give away one Boston Strong short sleeve and one short sleeve from the cause collection! Also, they will offer a $10 for all who like them on Facebook (code to be mailed at the end of the giveaway)! Until then, you can stay up to date by checking out their newsletter, following on Twitter or liking them on Facebook!
