In September, I posted about the app Lift. As a reminder, I saw this review of the app Lift on Dot Complicated‘s newsletter. One main purpose of Lift is to help you form (or break) habits and meet goals. It has a simple design and user interface. You enter a the list of habits you want to form/stop. At the end of the day, you check off the ones you successfully completed/avoided. The app resets at midnight and keeps track of how many days per week or month you successfully achieve your goal. Don’t know what to target? There is a list of common habits/goals to choose from. Lift can be used as an iPhone app or on the web.
Lift “helps you achieve your goals big or small” in three steps: Set goals, See your progress and Get support. Liz Wassman from Dot Complicated suggested that “for [her], the satisfaction of checking off the habit every day was enough motivation to stick with it. It’s amazing that such a small action successfully works as motivation, but it does.”
Why am I telling you this again? I noticed that the folks at Lift are doing a free “Quantified Diet” project. They have a list of diets, you can choose from the list which you would be willing to try (or you may be in the control group) and they will randomly pick one from your list for you to participate in for 30 days. Then, will send you daily challenges/advice via the Lift app or website.
The Quantified Diet Project aims for two things:
1. To help one million people make a healthy diet change leading to: weight loss, overall health, and/or more energy. We’re providing 10 popular diets with expert advice.
2. To perform the largest-ever measurement of popular diets. What works? How do popular diets compare? How can we all be more successful? We’re working with UC Berkeley on the science and the analysis.
This is super interesting to me. I got “Whole foods: eat only recognizable foods and avoid processed ones.” Advised by Summer Tomato. Day one assignment was to eat at least ONE meal that was all whole foods. Yay! That was easy. I am really interested to see the tips and assignments as the month goes on (and how I do!)
