Before the NYC marathon, I mentioned that I was struggling with tradition versus nutrition – go with the old (Powerbar) or something dairy/gluten free. I went with nutrition and fueled with a small sweet potato and a PureFit bar. I have another marathon coming up – in 2 short weeks – in Houston. Now that I have broken tradition, I feel like I am OK to continue to use the PureFit bars and to recommend them to you.
I had never heard of PureFit bars before the Chicago Marathon expo. I was working at the CEP booth and on my few breaks, I tried some samples. They were so good that I bought some and then wrote to the company to see if they wanted me to do a review and giveaway. They said YES. Even better, I met Jacob from PureFit at the NYC Marathon expo and got some more bars to share with my friends and a cool t-shirt, too! Score!
About PureFit Bars:
Since 2001, PureFit has been producing high-quality, all natural, 40/30/30 nutrition bars taste good without all the additives and sugar that are often included in other “nutrition bars.” PureFit bars do not contain dairy, wheat, gluten, artificial sweeteners, hydrogenated oils, or trans fats, so they offer a sound nutritional choice.
They “offer a bar for everyone—one that would fuel an endurance athlete’s toughest workout, or provide a nutritious between-meal snack.”
They have 7 flavors: Granola Crunch, Peanut Butter Crunch, Berry Almond Crunch, Chocolate Brownie, Almond Crunch, Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip and Peanut Butter Toffee Crunch. The consistency of the bars is like Power Bars, but softer and you can taste the nuts and granola in them. My favorites are the Granola Crunch and Almond Crunch. The new Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip is also very tasty. I like them all, but I can see going with the Granola Crunch as a race day mainstay. Marie and friends also enjoyed the bars they tried, too.
