As I have said before, eating healthy on the go can be a big challenge. It is so easy to grab whatever is around. I find this is especially true for airplane flights/airports and long work meetings. And now since I am eliminating wheat, gluten and dairy for the short term, healthy snacks can be a bit tough to find on the go. I was fortunate to try some awesome new (to me) on the go snacks recently. Even better, I have some giveaways so you can enter to win some, too!
Biena Foods makes roasted chickpea snacks in the following flavors: Cinnamon Maple, Barbeque, Sea Salt and Honey Roasted. These snacks are high in protein & fiber and contain all natural ingredients. I saw these on Marcia’s blog and followed them on Twitter. When Biena followed me back, I told them I’d love to try the snacks. They sent me one of each flavor and agreed to send one lucky reader a sampler pack, as well!
Biena Foods founder, Poorvi Patodia, tried a “healthy” snack a few years ago and was alarmed at how high in fat it was and the number of artificial ingredients. She set out to make the perfect snack. These roasted chickpeas are high in protein and fiber, are naturally gluten free, and all natural. Here is the nutrition information.
But how do they taste? In a word? Awesome. I tried the Sea Salt with my salads for a week. They added the perfect crunch that I have been missing since I stopped eating croutons. I love this option and will definitely buy more to continue doing this (and you should, too!) I pretty much inhaled the Honey Roasted ones as a snack. The flavor is light and tasty, and these snacks are not greasy. I shared the Cinnamon Maple with the gang when we were in Vancouver and had to wait a LONG time for lunch. Everyone liked them. I love anything cinnamon or maple, so I knew I would love these. My friends liked the flavor and crunch of these snacks, too. The BBQ has onions, so I had to pass. Wendy enjoyed the taste and texture of this flavor, too. She did say that this flavor was a bit messy on the hands (but worth it!)
Biena Foods Roasted Chickpeas can be found at many stores on the east coast, at CIBO markets in airports and online. The online prices are $2.99/pack and they are sold in packs of 4. The shipping is a $3.99 flat fee. These are worth it! You can keep up with Biena Foods on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Andrew from PopCorners saw one of my other snack reviews and asked if I’d be interested in trying out PopCorners. He told me that Popcorners are low in calories, all natural and gluten-free and are a great option for those with gluten-intolerances. And, they are good for non-gluten free folks, too. Of course, these sounded up my alley, so I gladly accepted the offer to receive a “blogger box”.
My “blogger box” contained 6 flavors and 6 bags each! The flavors I received were: Sea Salt, Kettle, Caramel, Butter, Cheesy Jalapeno and White Cheddar. Unfortunately for me (and fortunately for my friends), only Sea Salt and Kettle are milk free. So… I gave out the Caramel, Butter, Cheesy Jalapeno and White Cheddar to my friends. The Sea Salt were delicious and the snack bag was the perfect thing to go with my salad in lieu of crackers/bread. The Kettle ones have a nice sweet flavor but are not too sweet. In fact, they are slightly sweet and kind of salty. A perfect combo for me.
Some comments from the peanut popcorn gallery:
- My husband liked the jalapeño ones. He ate a few and said, “They taste like rice cakes. Oh wait! There’s the jalapeño! They’re good.”
- Kristin and Stacy liked the zing of the Cheesy Jalapeno, as well.
- Stacy says, “YUM! I thought they were really delicious and flavorful. And, lots of great flavors too! Definitely have the potential for addiction. Last thought: pick me! 🙂 haha.” She adds, “I’ve tried lots — butter, sea salt, white cheddar, and kettle. oh, and jalapeno, almost forgot. I kind of loved them all, but if i were to buy a bag — like i did — the sea salt is usually the safe bet and probably the one i feel is ‘less bad’ when i think about them like chips.”
- Maggie says, “I think they are pretty tasty. So far I’ve tried the White Cheddar and Cheesy Jalapeno flavors.”
PopCorners can be found at many stores (here is the store finder) and online. The online prices less than $1/1.1 oz snack bag (great for school lunches!) and they are sold in packs of 40 or packs of 12 larger bags for less than $2/bag. The shipping is a free in the continental US. You can keep up with Popcorners on Facebook and Twitter.
