I love to travel and I love products that make being on the road easier. So, I was delighted to receive an Ohyo bottle for review. What is an Ohyo bottle? It is a “collapsabottle” (collapsible water bottle) that’s easy to take anywhere. When it is empty it “squishes” down to about 2 1/2 inches high. When you are ready to use it, you can extend it (think of an accordion) to hold half a liter (16 oz) of water or other cold beverage. It also has a convenient straw on the top.
The benefits of the Ohyo bottle are:
- Good for the environment – they advocate “more water, less waste” and recommend www.findafountain.org (or the findafountain app) to find free water fountains wherever you are.
- Convenient
- BPA Free
- Durable design – it is tested for over 10,000 “squishes”!
- Dishwasher safe – yay!
- Inexpensive – they say they are “easy on the wallet and the world.”
In the spirit of full disclosure, I had trouble getting the straw to work (it ends at the top of the bottle). That being said, I e-mailed and got a super prompt reply. In the mean time, I looked at the package and realized that you have to click the spout to the right to engage it to avoid “dribbling”. Luckily, I tested the bottle with water or there would have been laundry! So, read directions, kids, even on things that seem obvious!
It takes a bit of practice, but once I engaged the straw and compressed the bottle, drinking was a snap (and kind of fun, too!) The one drawback I saw is that the end of the drink gets trapped in the folds of bottle. This is not a big deal, but I was concerned about mold or ick growing. The good news, I washed out the bottle and left the top off and it dried up pretty quickly.
Currently the bottles are available via Ohyo in the UK as their US amazon store is sold out. Just select “World Zone 1” for the shipping rate. A two pack with shipping is 12 GBPs, or roughly $20. The bottles have been tested for up to 10,000 uses so a pretty good deal! Ohyo also donated 100 bottles to 100-Out Campaign to get the 2018 Gay Games in London – for 10 GBP donation, you get a free bottle. I am not sure if they ship to the US but good on Ohyo for supporting!
You can keep up with Ohyo on Twitter or Facebook. According to their Facebook page, they are hitting the US market directly in less than a month!
The folks at Ohyo sent me 2 bottles, so I am going to give one (blue in package) away to a lucky reader! Enter with the Rafflecopter below.
