When I started my elimination diet 64 days ago (who is counting?), I vowed not to search for gluten free, egg free, dairy free (onion and bean free, too) “junk” food. I am pretty proud of myself, because I have been eating and enjoying whole foods, summer produce, nuts, nut butters and awesome all natural energy bars. I feel great and have even lost a few pounds despite not limiting anything – other than gluten, dairy and eggs – YAY.
One day, I was in the new local, healthier convenience store, Go Grocer, and I saw Liz Lovely cookies. I noticed that they were vegan and gluten free (most flavors). They are 100% natural & non-GMO, Vegan Certified, gluten free, use sustainable palm oil and focus on using ingredients from responsible sources. With that said, after spying the super cute package and the lure of my fave flavor “Ginger Molasses”, I decided that this was not junk food after all. It was just a treat, so I would make it the exception. And boy, am I glad I did. I noticed that each cookie is 2 servings, but I will note that the cookies are pretty large. So, I set a goal of eating half a cookie four times. And, I am proud to say I did it. This may not seem like a feat to you, but self control with cookies is not my strong suit.
I loved the ginger flavor, the chewy texture and the sugar (and real ginger) coating. The consistency was good, too. It was soft, but not mushy, and I did not miss the eggs and butter! It was the perfect mid afternoon treat with tea. Of course, I then went online to see what the other flavors were and was delighted to see that they had TEN gluten free flavors. They make three that contain wheat, but are vegan. [As an aside, These are actually being discontinued so that they can focus on being a Gluten Free facility. Good news for wheat people, they are having a closeout sale! $18.00 for 6 two-packs (25% off) retail. Use promo code FREEZERSQUEEZER for free shipping over $70, too.]
So, I contacted Liz Lovely and they agreed to mail me a sampler to review for the blog and then offered a sampler pack to give away, too! The package that arrived was indeed lovely and generous! I got 6 flavors of gluten free, vegan cookies. Each pack has 2 big cookies (4 servings). I loved the gift box, packaging and cute note. Plus blogger bonus – 5% off online orders with code LOVELIZ to share with readers.
The flavors I received were: Ginger Molasses, Chocolate Fudge, Chocolate Chip, Peanut Butter, Snickerdoodle and Triple Chocolate Mint.I shared one each of Ginger Molasses, Chocolate Mint and Chocolate Chip with Stacy and one each of Snickerdoodle and Peanut Butter with Molly. I ate the Chocolate Fudge both myself.
So how were they?
- For me, it was really hard to pick a favorite. I was really surprised by how much I loved the Chocolate Fudge (and had none left for sharing!) I loved the Ginger Molasses and Peanut Butter, too. All three will definitely become regulars in my “treats” stash. I generally don’t care much for Snickerdoodles, but I liked these a lot, too. The Triple Chocolate Mint was also tasty. The only one that I would not likely get again is the Chocolate Chip. It seems a bit grainy and just not super appealing to me. I don’t usually choose Chocolate Chip cookies – unless they are Stacy’s, her mom’s or Pam’s. I like them with oatmeal, too.
- Stacy said, “I LOVED the Triple Chocolate Mint.” It was her favorite of the three that she tried followed by the Ginger Molasses which she thought was “really good, too.” She thought that the Chocolate Chip was “decent”. (She and her mom make awesome chocolate chip cookies, so she would be a tough customer here!) She did mention that the cookies have a bit of a “gritty texture” which she proposed could be “a function the lack of gluten binding the sugar.” As for her favorite one she said it had “just the right balance of the mint with the chocolate cookie.”
- Molly tried the cookies on an overseas business trip and reported back that, “Yes, I tried the cookies and, surprisingly, I liked the Snickerdoodle the best.” Like me this is not usually her favorite, but she said, “it was so chewy and good! I liked the Peanut Butter, as well, but the Snickerdoodle was amazing!”
So our cookie conoisseurs agree, these are DELICIOUS- and made with all natural ingredients and a focus on sustainability. A win-win-win! Don’t take our word for it, the folks at Liz Lovely are sending one LUCKY winner a gift box of 6 flavors to try, too! And if you want to try them now, you can get 5% off online orders with code LOVELIZ. Plus they have a sale on the non-gluten free flavors and gluten free coconut flavors now, too!
