Self magazine highlighted a great free app with a new paid “follow me” feature that would be awesome for runners, hikers and anyone who may be out and about alone. React Mobile turns your iPhone into a security device and allows you to report incidents or crimes. With the push of a button, a silent “SOS” with the your GPS location is sent to the emergency contacts you set via email, text message and an (optional) alert can be posted to Twitter/Facebook – without an onlooker or an attacker knowing.
Self mentioned the premium “follow-me” feature that allows users to have their friends and family track them in real-time for those “not so emergency” situations. Say you are running in the early morning or evening alone, you may not want to issue an SOS alert but you can use this feature to allow your emergency contacts to know where you are in real-time. Just in case!
A runner or hiker, a realtor working alone or a student walking home can instantly send out a notification if they are approached by a suspicious person. That is not a bad option to have!
React Mobile is available for iOS free and is coming soon to Android. The “Follow-me” feature can be added for $19.99/year or $1.99/month. A family version is also coming soon.
The soon to be released women’s multi-sport GPS sports watch from Bia will also have an SOS Safety alert feature that sends your location to loved ones and emergency services at the press of a button. The Bia watch is pretty awesome. It is “not a shrink it and pink it” approach to women’s sporting goods. This watch has a colorful, slim lightweight design, robust multisport functionality and some smart new features. I mentioned safety alerts. It also includes quick connect GPS, online data transfer and ease of use. They also put in a triathlon race mode, Galloway-style walk-run intervals, water resistance to 50m and 17 hours of use between re-charges.
These Bia watches are currently pre-production and are available for pre-sale for $249 (30% off of retail). Pre-sale buyers will have 30% off on future Bia purchases, too. Rhys and I each bought one during the Kickstarter campaign. I can’t wait to get mine
