Eating healthy on the go can be a big challenge. It is so easy to grab whatever is around. I find this is especially true for airplane flights/airports and long work meetings. Why are those big cookies at work meetings still a temptation? They are usually not even that good…but I digress. I was fortunate to try some awesome new (to me) on the go snacks recently. Even better, THREE awesome companies also offered product giveaways (and I bought too many Picky Bars. For the record, I did not ask them for extras to share, but I still assume they are awesome!) so you can enter to win to try each of them, too!
I tried Raw Crunch bars with a Lifebooker deal a few months ago. These bars are crunchy, not too sweet and delicious! Kath from Raw Crunch offered me some bars to taste and to giveaway, too, when I wrote my Renewdle review and giveaway. (Talent runs in the family. Pam, the inventor of the Renewdle, is Kath’s mom! Love that!)
Raw Crunch bars are dehydrated and have no processed ingredients. The ingredients are all natural and it is their goal to have as each ingredient “as fresh and nutritionally intact as possible.” That’s awesome, but how do they taste. I think they are delicious and my friends agree. (I shared them!)
You have to like seeds (think nut brittle) to like these bars and I do. They remind me of a nut brittle without all of the extra sugar. I like the chocolate best. If you ever read this blog, I am guessing that does not surprise you in the least. That said, all of the fruit flavors are tasty, too. These are perfect pre-run or before the gym because they are light and easy to digest.
Want to try some? Raw Crunch has offered a mixed case to a reader. Read on and enter using the Rafflecopter giveaway at the bottom of the post!
I tried Veggie-Gos last year after reading about them on the internet – I think on PureWow or Daily Candy. I recently got some more from Abe’s Market and I enjoyed it so much that I reached out and asked them if they were interested in a giveaway. They said yes! They sent me one of each flavor to enjoy and share and one of each flavor to send to 2 winners!
What are Veggie-Gos? They are all natural, GMO free, no sugar added fruit and veg leather for grown-ups! And they are delicious!
Naked Edge Snacks says, “Veggie-Gos’s are the chewiest, fruitiest way to LOVE your veggies!” Their snacks are made from whole organic fruits and vegetables with no added sugar! They come in four flavors: Mountain Berry Spinach, Sweet Potato Pie, Carrot Ginger and Cinnamon Spiced Beet. Veggie-Gos‘s are made by hand from organic, all natural, whole-food ingredients in “the health food mecca of Boulder, CO”. Veggie-Go’s are a great on-the-go snack. They say, “Veggie-Go’s are the perfect snack – delicious, naturally low calorie and chock full of nutrients.”
My favorite thing about these snacks is that they have all of my favorite foods in them – and only whole foods and spices. They also taste delicious! It is tough for me to pick a favorite. I do like them all. If push came to shove, I would choose Sweet Potato Pie and Carrot Ginger because I am nuts about both of these flavors. I shared some of these with friends and everyone liked them. My friend, David, said it was the perfect quick pick me up for him after our run.
Naked Edge Snacks sent me 2 sets of one of each flavor (4) to send to 2 winners. Keep reading and enter the giveaway at the end of the post! (And good news, you can find these at Abe’s Market (online) and Plum Market (now in Chicago!)
[OK – so this is not a “snack” per say, but it is an on the go FUEL that you may want to try!] I did a review and giveaway of Energy Bits in April. You can read all of the details in that post. The quick version is that in the blogosphere, I keep reading about and seeing giveaways for Energy Bits. I entered about 10! I finally emailed and asked for a sample to review. Then I won a sample from Alison at Train Eat Repeat. So I tried about a weeks worth.
While on my quest to win, I checked their website. I wanted to know what the bits were made of. They are 100% organic Spirulina, nothing else. So like me, you are probably wondering how that will that give you energy. Here is what Energy Bits has to say:
“[Energy Bits] have the highest concentration of protein in the world (64% protein which is three times the amount of protein in steak), over 40 nutrients, and are just one calorie per tab. Just a handful of 30+ bits will not only fill you up, they will meet most of your daily nutritional requirements, and all for just ONE calorie per tab. Even better, spirulina is a nitrogen based algae, and since nitric oxide opens up your blood vessels, taking our ENERGYbits® will give your brain and your body a steady and natural supply of oxygen and nourishment. That’s one of the reasons why they are such a great wake up and pick up.”
Energy Bits are purported to give you energy and many extra health benefits with no hit to the waistline. I am naturally skeptical, and Energy Bits are not cheap, so I was psyched to try them for free.

When I tried them, I felt energized, had no headache from lack of caffeine and was less hungry after my class was over than I would usually be. Placebo effect? I am not sure, but considering they are all natural and have tons of vitamins and minerals and only one calorie per tablet. Seems worth a try. I used them all week, and I must say, I am sold. I was worried that their may be a lingering “fishiness” (the dreaded fish burp) like from Omega 3. I used these for running and before a 10 mile race with no ill effects – an it seemed like positive effects. All of my workouts were strong and I did feel less hungry in the morning before and after breakfast. Also, I had no stomach worries with this added ingredient. This happens sometimes, especially with running. I am completely swayed!

I heard a ton of great things about Picky Bars and I love the quirky style of the marketing, so I joined their member’s only club. Of course it was the best deal ~$2 a bar. And, now I have extra to share with a lucky reader.
Picky Bars were created by runners Lauren Fleshman (for her husband Jesse Thomas – a gluten free triathlete) and Stephanie Rothstein who has Celiac Disease and is therefore gluten free. I am not, but these bars are created by top athletes for athletes with solid science. And their materials are amusing… and I heard good things… and like I said these people are amazing athletes.
The bars are pretty compact and have 200 calories or less each. They have all natural ingredients and follow a 4:1 ratio of carbohydrate to protein that is “ideal for recovery and maximizes absorption of nutrients.” They are gluten and dairy free and have balanced macro-nutrients (25% fat, 60% carbohydrate, 15% protein) for hunger control and” happy digestion.”
Even better than all of that, they are delicious! I am a bit obsessed with the Smooth Caffeinator which is a 100% vegan, hazelnut and mocha bar. It is SO tasty. It was hard to pick a second favorite but I like Lauren’s Mega Nuts a lot, too – peanut butter and chocolate! Hello – time tested combo there! Need for Seed has sunflower butter base and no nuts – however they are produced in a facility with nuts. All in Almond has an almond butter base with chocolate chips. Another cool thing is that they vary the nuts in each bar so that people who eat the bars get a variety of nutrients. Pretty cool idea!
Anyway, as I said, I joined their club and I am happy that I did. I got a good deal, had plenty to share with friends and I will send one lucky winner one of each of these flavors!
