My friend Mahala sent me an article from the Huffington post on the Best Salon Booking Apps. Style Seat and Beautified (currently in Beta test in NYC only) seem to be their top picks. Style Seat is available in a bunch of cities. They offer search, online booking, special offers and pictures/style inspiration. There are more listings in NYC and San Francisco (they even have a come to you option for San Fran!) There are some choices in Chicago but not a ton.
I was surprised that my favorite Lifebooker was not included. Lifebooker offers real time and last minute appointments and special offers for a variety of spa and salon services (and products and fitness classes and more). They also offer Lifebooker Loot – think groupon meets spafinder. I have gotten some great health, fitness and nutrition deals there. They are also offering 15% off if you book with their new app use code APPBOOKER for salon appointments or APPLOOT for Lifebooker Loot.
Also, HuffPost should keep their eye on the Chicago “Women Who Launch” start up, PrettyQuick. I profiled them a few months ago. PrettyQuick is your “real-time, mobile beauty concierge” (available now in Chicago only.) You pick your service, day and time and then salons & spas respond to your request within 5 minutes and you choose when and where to go. Pretty quick AND pretty cool!

If something is out of stock you can ask to be notified when it comes back online/in stock, as well. You can also track if the image changes or if the item is removed. I will let you know how well this works and will add more items, too. This is kind of awesome if you are coveting something but don’t want to pay full price!
