Chained to your desk at work like me? Check out Fitness Reloaded’s great post with tips for reversing (or containing) the detrimental effects of sitting at a desk all day!
12 quick fitness tips that minimize sitting (and may save your life).
1. When at work walk to the bathroom that is far away from you.
2. Take frequent breaks to stretch when at the office.
3. Do a few office exercises every 1 hour or so.
4. Sit on a stability ball instead of a regular chair.
5. Use a standing desk.
6. Take the stairs instead of the elevator.
7. Park more far away than usual.
8. Exercise while you are watching TV.
9. Stretch while you are watching TV.
10. Do at least one weekly errand on foot, or on your bike, rather than take the car.
11. If you have the flexibility to work from anywhere, then spend sometime at home, then leave and, e.g., go to a cafe, or a library.
12. Wear a pedometer.

What do you do to make your desk job less sedentary?
In Chicago? Tired of listening to me talk about Pilates for Runners? Try it yourself. Here’s Maureen’s post:
“Pilates for Runners and Athletes will now be offered on Sundays at 12:30 (in addition to Thursday at 6:00 AM) at Flow Pilates and Wellness (2248 N Clark St). It’s a great way to incorporate some winter cross training and prepare for the spring racing season!
The class has a Pilates foundation with the addition of standing exercises, balance work, some light plyometrics and plenty of glute, hamstring and hip work to help strengthen the areas so important to maintain strong and efficient running form. Please plan to wear comfortable workout clothes and shoes to class. A light neutral shoe would be ideal. All equipment including a mat, will be provided.
You may also be interested in adding some TRX or yoga into the mix. If so, please mention the Flow Runners’ Special: Winter Core Tune-Up (1/2 off 2 TRX, 2 Yoga, 2 Pilates Mat: just $75) Please visit Flow Online Scheduling to register online or call Flow at 773-975-7540 to receive any of the special introductory deals. Hope to see you soon!”
