Keeping Things in Perspective (& Chance to Win Some Sneakers!)

I woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. I was cranky and did not want to go to my kick-butt yoga sculpt class. I just wanted to stay in bed. I have been burning the candle at both ends and have been over committed – as usual. I think that the 4th of July and consecutive 100 plus degree days and constantly being on the move caught up to me. Luckily, before I went to class, I was on Facebook and saw this post:

My friend, George Gallego, suffered a spinal cord injury in 1992 and he started an organization called Wheels of Progress to help young people with spinal cord injuries live a normal life. He is paralyzed from the waist down but is planning to compete in IM NY – to swim 2.4 miles, bike (hand cycle) 112 miles and then complete a marathon… in August… in NYC.

Suddenly, I felt ashamed of my self pity for being too tired and cranky. People always tell me that I am a person who handles set backs with grace, and I hope that I would come close to having one bit of the drive and chutzpah that George has. I hope I never have to find out and I hope I can take my small set backs with grace.

I am grateful to George for helping me to put things in perspective this morning. After suffering a series of injuries, I am always grateful for every run, every yoga class and every healthy day. When things are going well, I can sometimes forget what it feels like to not be able to do whatever I want to do physically whenever I want. I am so lucky.

George is trying to raise $50,000 which will help FIVE young people to get started living on their own.

I gave a donation and I would like to help George meet his goal. You can click here to make a donation. Anyone who makes a donation from this page, will be entered to win a pair of Asics Gel-1170 shoes (I won these for donating to another charity so I think this is a great way to pay this forward):

Just make a donation of any amount and then comment on this post to tell me that you donated. I will pick a winner from a hat (yes, I use a hat!) on Sunday, July 15.

I hope this post gave you a lift like it did for me this morning. Have a great day!

PS. I did get myself to yoga and the gym. I passed up a bike ride even on a beautiful morning to come home and take care of cleaning up the house and do the laundry. A good compromise!
