My friend Sarah sent me some info. for a documentary opening in Chicago on June 1 that looks awesome:
The Through Her Eyes Project: Opening reception on June 1st from 6 – 9pm. The exhibit will take place at the Chicago Art Department located at 1932 South Halsted #100 Chicago, IL 60608. General viewing will be held on June 2nd & 3rd from 12 – 5pm.
The Through Her Eyes Project is an innovative multimedia exhibition project designed to profile girls and women in developing countries who play sports and to highlight the benefits they gain from doing so by presenting photographs and short video documentaries about the women and girls. The exhibit consists of 50 large-scale photographs and 75 short documentary video profiles. This project aims to share these stories both online and on the ground, to motivate a world of stronger women, families and communities. It presents the thoughts, voices and faces of women and girls of all ages, races, levels of skill and socioeconomic backgrounds. By doing so, it examines and explores how involvement in sports affects development by expanding social opportunities and demonstrates that women and girls in every country, and specifically developing countries, gain much more than physical strength when they play sports. The exhibit is a multimedia experience, allowing visitors to view the photographs and listen to the stories. The goal is to help shape a new generation of women and girls by sharing these images and voices and showing that sports can serve as a social conduit for destroying social barriers that often restrict the role of women in their communities.
