Runfessions – Mountains 2 Beach Marathon Edition

It’s Friday, so I’m linking up with Running on Happy and Fairytales and Fitness for Friday Five 2.0. I’m doubling down and linking up with Marcia for March “Runfessions,” too! Runfessions are running truths or “where runners bare their souls and soles.”

In January, I runfessed that I *may* have signed up for a marathon but I reserved the right to run the half.  It’s true and that marathon is this Sunday. It’s Mountains 2 Beach in Ojai, California. I’m sticking with the full marathon and I runfess that I’m cautiously optimistic.

That elevation chart is a thing of beauty!

I runfess that I agreed to run this marathon because of the awesome downhill course profile. I had a scare when someone I know who lives in Ojai suggested that the race ran up the mountain. Apparently there used to be a “Sea to Summit” race or ride. Thank goodness this is not that!

Race start is 6 AM. It’ll be in the 50s/lower 60s. YAY!

I runfess that I’ve been stalking the Sunday morning weather in Ojai, CA. It was looking hot, but now it’s looking pretty perfect for the 6:00 AM start. The high is expected to be in the mid 70s but I hope to be done by then!

Gorgeous and worth the effort!

I runfess that I had a great time hiking last weekend but I’m lucky I didn’t get hurt. Hiking in Zion last weekend was amazing, but the Friday hike to “The Subway” was very difficult and strenuous. I had a few slip and fall incidents. I almost kissed the ground when I made it back to the car with no injuries!

I think I can. I think I can. I think I can.

I runfess that I have a few goals for Sunday, but I’m not going to publicize them. My number one goal is always to have fun and to be grateful for every step. I have some time goals (an A, B and C) but I know at the end of the race, these will only matter to me. I’m going to break out my mantra “My kind of race. My kind of day.” And, I will remember the words of Henry Ford and Thomas the Train to get me through!

Anyone racing this weekend? Good luck!

Have a safe and fun Memorial Day Weekend, friends!
