I met the folks from Rule Breaker Snacks at Expo West in 2016. They were called Pure Genius Provisions then and they won a Nexty award at Expo East in 2016, too! They make delicious brownies and blondies that are free of the top 8 allergens. They have chickpeas as their first ingredient, so they’re packed with protein and fiber. These “better for you treats” are plant based, vegan, non-GMO and gluten free.
Rule Breaker’s brownies and blondies were developed by a health journalist with a big sweet tooth. [I can relate!] She tried all kinds of black bean recipes and finally switched to chickpeas. She knew a lot about food allergies and wanted to make “something everyone can eat.”
Rule Breaker launched with a Deep Chocolate Brownie and a Chocolate Chunk Blondie. When I swung by to see them at Expo West this year, they told me some exciting news. Their products are now shelf stable instead of requiring refrigeration. They’re also launching 2 new flavors. Birthday Cake Blondies launched on Amazon last week! They have white chocolate chips and sprinkles – fun!
They sent me some of the new product formulations to try. There are a few small differences. The new shelf stable brownies are round instead of square. They’re a bit less moist than the refrigerated version. The brownies are still rich and delicious. They’re dense and filling. They only have 240 calories per brownie, too! Each brownie has 4g of fiber, 3g of protein and only 6g of added sugar. They’re “school safe” and great for kids or grown ups. This is the perfect afternoon treat for me with a coffee.
The blondies are packed with big chocolate chunks. Even though these taste sweeter to me, each blondie has 4g of fiber, 3g of protein and only 4g of added sugar. I’m partial to the brownie, but these are a tasty treat, as well.
