Friday Five: 5 Reasons to Stay Hydrated #Giveaway

It’s Friday, so I am linking up with Courtney at Eat, Pray, Run DC, Cynthia at You Signed Up for What and Mar at Mar on the Run for their weekly linkup. Each week they pick a theme and bloggers join in and link up. This year instead of specific themes, they are letting us be creative with broad themes for each week of the month. This week is a “food” week. Since I have been doing mega giveaways (new finds and Finds’ faves) and posts on food finds from Expo West, I am going to do “drink” instead… well water.  Through my relationship with Fit Approach as a Sweat Pink ambassador, I had the opportunity to check out Core Hydration Pure pH Water. They are sponsoring this post and offering one lucky reader coupons for 12 free bottles of their water, too.

5 Great Reasons to Stay Hydrated

1. It can calm hunger or stop cravings. Feeling really hungry or have cravings? You may be dehydrated or just plain thirsty. Instead of reaching for a snack, try first drinking a glass of water and see if your hunger calms down or disappears.

2. It can give you an energy boost. If you’re feeling drained and depleted, you can get a pick-me-up with water. Dehydration makes you feel tired. Feeling tired is one of the first signs of dehydration. Can’t take a nap? Have a big glass of water.

3. It’s good for your skin. Drinking more water can help your skin look its best (source). The skin is an organ. When you are dehydrated, it can become flaky, dry and irritated. So drink up and use good moisturizers! Some sources go further and suggest “Drinking water hydrates skin cells and plumps them up, making your face look younger. It also flushes out impurities and improves circulation and blood flow, helping your skin glow.

4. It helps keep “things moving.” Your digestive tract needs water to work properly. According to WebMD and many other sources, water helps dissolve waste particles and passes them smoothly through your digestive tract. When you are dehydrated, this flow is disrupted and that is not good!

5. It’s essential for exercise – even when it is not really hot out. Athletic performance declines with dehydration. Remember, if possible, drink before you feel really thirsty. I know for me, I drink less in cooler weather, but I need to push myself to drink more to feel my best while running and working out.
