Currently… It’s Supposed to Be Spring

Currently… A post on “things of the moment” for me (#12). [Inspired by Marcia and other bloggers.]

That's not pollen. It's snow!
That’s not pollen. It’s snow! Chicago runners, we are April fools.

State of things: I hate to talk about the weather because it’s boring, BUT we had ice and freezing temps on our run yesterday on April 9. WTF!? I was very grateful not to have signed up for the Chitown Half Marathon or worse yet the Lakefront 50K. Those looked tough as it was not salted and it was super slippery out there. No falls in our group – that may have been a record. I have happily had little travel in the last few weeks for work and only a few trips for fun and it has been great to be home more.

Books of the moment
Books of the moment

Books: I’m reading my friend Sally Christie’s new book The Rivals of Versailles. It is the second in a trilogy. It is fun and witty and not the type of thing I usually enjoy but I love it! And it makes me happy not to have been born in the 1700s in France. Sheesh! I highly recommend it! I just finished The Harry Quebert Affair and was a big fan of that one, too! I mentioned this in my coffee talk post, but my book club read To Kill a Mockingbird and it totally held up. Have you read anything good lately?

Movies: I haven’t seen a single movie this year at the theater or at home. Weird! I really like movies. Nothing has captured my interest lately. Have you seen anything good lately?

TV: The Husband and I watched Making a Murderer and are watching the 4th season of House of Cards. OMG – Making of a Murderer. I know it is one sided, but for the love… what a crazy story and the Dassey case blows my mind. Did you see it? Thoughts? House of Cards may have jumped the shark for me. This Claire story is just a bit too out there for me. Anyone with me there? On our list is still The Knick, Transparent and catching up on The Americans. Anything else good for us to put on our list?

Website/Podcast: I LOVED this week’s podcast from The Moth. Run DMC’s 2007 story about how Sarah McLachlan saved his life is a MUST listen. I have also been loving the Modern Love podcast. Have you heard this one? It is essays from the NY Times Modern Love column read by actors with commentary and Q&A with the authors. So good! I have also been reading/listening to Kind World on WBUR, as well. So good! Have you heard anything good lately?

Lots of smiles on the run as usual!

Run: My last “Currently” post was on the way to the Carlsbad Half Marathon. I was worried about the race because I hurt my hamstring in December and could not run at all for a while there. I can’t lie, Carlsbad was tough. I was not mentally in the game and I let that get to me. It was also really warm for us (60s) and I just wanted to quit. It was my slowest half in a long time. I was able to finish the training for Los Angeles and ran it for fun without a focus on time. It was in fact SUPER fun and I loved how well my friends did. I smiled from start to finish. I was able to get back to “normal” pace in a 5K, the NYC Half and the Shamrock Shuffle. I feel super grateful for that! Read my Q1 Running Recap HERE.
