Snack Healthy with Harvest Roast Pumpkin Seeds #Giveaway

By my company’s San Francisco office there is a great convenience store with a huge healthy food section. On my last trip there in October, I picked up some Chili Lime Pumpkin Seeds from Harvest Roast.  They were delicious and very filling and since they are not roasted with oil, they were under 250 calories for the whole bag. This is the perfect travel snack! When I got home, I checked out their website and ordered 2 of each flavor to try and share. I really enjoyed the ones I tried so I wrote to them and they offered to send one lucky reader a sampler pack of 24 pouches (4 flavors x 6 each).

Harvest Roast started in the 90’s at the local Farmer’s Markets in Oregon. Based on “pure and simple quality from all domestic and local ingredients,” the brand spread into Northwest natural and specialty food stores. Their goal has always been to “unite our farmer friends with our vision of making the perfect roasted pumpkin seed.” They raise one special variety of local pumpkin that produces premium grade, jumbo seeds. They say, “not all seeds are created equal. The inner meat in our variety is plumper and the hull is more tender than others.” They are made in small batches by hand and are carefully sorted to ensure the best quality.

Pumpkin seeds are really nutritious. They are rich in vitamins and minerals including Zinc, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Calcium, Copper, Iron and Vitamins E, C, A and B. They are a good source for both Omega 3 & 6 Essential Fatty Acids and high in dietary fiber and protein.

Harvest Roast Pumpkin Seeds come in 5 flavors: Chili Lime, Sea Salt, Garlic Herb, Jalapeno and Honey Sesame.  My faves are Chili Lime and Honey Sesame. Amanda loved the Garlic Herb so much that she tried to make her own, but lamented that they were not as tasty and did not stay as crisp as the Harvest Roast ones. She also polished off a Sea Salt pack on a plane ride – like I did. I thought the Jalapeno had a nice kick, too. I gave my other Garlic Herb ones away so I still have to try those. I ate the hulls on these but I imagine you can eat just the seed and spend a while with these.

For me, these are a great airplane snacks or afternoon snacks. They take a while to eat and they are very filling. I also enjoyed tossing a bunch in my salads and in a batch of spaghetti squash. They add a nice crunch and natural zing.
