December Ultimate Coffee Date – Birthday Edition

Ultimate-Coffee-Date-Badge-e1416682466503I can’t believe it’s the last Ultimate Coffee Date link up of the year! I‘m linking up again with Coco @ Running with Perseverance, Lynda @ Fitness Mom Wine Country, & Deborah @ Confessions of a Mother Runner for the last “Ultimate Coffee Date” of 2015. What is the Ultimate Coffee Date? Imagine we are having coffee together… this post is what I would tell you. So grab a cup and “listen” and then tell me what is going on with you in the comments, please!

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that… It’s my birthday! Double 4s. Where does the time go? The Husband and my old friends will tell you that I LOVE my birthday. Being the youngest child in the house, and the only girl, I did not get a lot of decision making authority growing up. My birthday was the one time per year where I got to pick where we ate, what we ate, etc. I even got to sit in the front seat of the car. Yes, that is how old I am. These days, I love my birthday because I hear from friends and family far and near on social media and in real life. It is always amazing to connect and re-connect.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that… I just listened to two of my fave podcasts of the year from Third Coast Audio Festival. Re:sound‘s Gwen Macsai hosts “Best of the Best: The 2015 Third Coast Festival Broadcast,” showcasing the winners of the 2015 TC / Richard H. Driehaus Foundation Competition for best radio stories of the year. They highlighted: Mayday Mayday (Best New Artist), Betrayed by Silence (Radio Impact Award), Structural Integrity (Best Documentary: Bronze Award), Britney (Skylarking Award) and The Living Room (Director’s Choice Award). Then, Hour 2 of Best of the Best featuring the Best Documentary: Gold Award winner. In this hour, you’ll hear: Burma’s Rohinga: Easy Prey for Traffickers (Best News Feature), 695BGK (Best Documentary: Honorable Mention Award), Sounds Up There (Best Documentary: Silver Award), and Sight Unseen (Best Documentary: Gold Award). The Living Room and Sight Unseen were such moving stories – I heard them earlier in the year and loved being reminded of them and listening again. They also featured an episode of Mystery Show that I enjoyed but my vote would have gone to my fave Belt Buckle.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that… We are having our annual cookie exchange today but it will be super extra special because it is doubling as a baby shower for our friend, Molly. Plus it’s my birthday and there will be cake and lots of frosting! It’s a win-win-win. I am a super terrible baker so I made peanut butter fudge again and a no bake cookie that I love. Trust me, this is better for everyone!

If we were having coffee, I would tell you… Not to forget to enter the Windy City Bloggers Collective “Gifts That Give” Gift Basket. I contributed an awesome headband from Finds’ fave Janji, a super soft, eco-friendly gray logo-T from Fibre Athletics and a silver “Fighting Hunger” necklace from Half United (1 necklace = 7 meals) that I got in a FabFitFun box last year. There are several other great gift baskets to vie for HERE, as well.

Me in the “Everywhere Jacket”, Pursuit Top made from recycled water bottles and it has a pocket. Men’s Everywhere Jacket.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you… You should check out Fibre Athletics. They are a new, Chicago based clothing and lifestyle company. They are a Chicago Fair Trade Certified Company sourcing organic and recycled materials from ethical companies, finding or custom-making trims in the US, and producing locally. They are also producing some cool events and trips. Check out their Indiegogo campaign HERE. I met their founder Steve Sullivan through my friend Sangeeta so I got to check out their gear. I also supported the campaign and will get an awesome Everywhere Jacket – maybe for The Husband.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you… Happy Hanukah to those who celebrate. As a kid I used to get upset when it coincided with my birthday (less presents) but now I dig it. Are you ready for the holidays?!

Wow! I have rambled on long enough – our coffee will get cold! What would you have told me? Please let me know in the comments. See you for virtual coffee in 2016!
